Okay, I have realised something really interesting. Rather than checking over at ANN for news that might remotely be intriguing, I’ve decided to add to my RSS feeds, the news from Chinese anime sites instead. They seem to have all the weird rumours and news pouring out at a constant rate.

Most of these news, however, have no cited source included with them. Thus I shall be labelling this new section I’m starting as “Neta from the Chinese Rumour Mill”, or NCRM for short. I wonder if I can get tjhan to create a new category for this.

For the first piece of news in this section, behold:

It would appear that not many people (read: rabid otakus from 2ch) actually fancy Hirano Aya. I wonder how much hate does one need to possess that could lead him to go onto Wikipedia and spam”Go and die!” for 70000 times. The vandalism of Hirano Aya’s Wikipedia page started from the 15th of February and the lines have incremented to over 60~70 thousand lines.

The fact that Hirano Aya won the “Best Newcomer Award” at last year’s Seiyuu awards and winning the “Best Female Lead Award” this year does not seem to appeal to many. Seriously speaking though, despite my despise of Hirano Aya’s so-called “real” voice, I have to give her credit that her Haruhi voiceoverdid sound very well done. Her Konata voiceover, no doubt, upped the ante. Even though I am highly in support of Kugimiya Rie for her work on Kagura in Gintama, Hirano Aya does deserve the award. Speaking of Kugimiya Rie, ignoring her inane works on Shana and whatever-Harry-Potter-Hermione, she has really done herself proud to have presented an outstanding character of Kagura in the midst of two tsukkomi seiyuu kings Tomokazu Sugita and Daisuke Sakaguchi. She was probably edged out Hirano in terms of looks and age. I mean, if you have two really outstanding seiyuus, it is only reasonable you pick the one that appeals to most?

I think the hate probably stemmed from the way the news was reported. Maybe something along the lines of “young and cute seiyuu beats Hayashibara Megumi to pulp in Seiyuu awards”. It is up to anyone to speculate but in the meantime, grab the popcorn and watch on.

I would have favored Ayako Kawasumi for best Seiyuu, largely on the strength of Nodame, which was a great performance. But yeah, Konata was excellently voiced as well. I can’t begrudge Hirano her award. As for submitting “shine” 70000 times, surely that was done with a script. Hard to imagine anyone having the patience to put that in by hand, even with copy and paste. Though the way it was inserted into the body of the page makes me wonder- it almost does look as if it was entered by hand. Impressive effort for something that’s just going to get deleted anyway.

I don’t know, Aya Hirano looks kind of creepy to me. Not attractive at all. Not that that would have had any influence on how I voted since Rie Kugimiya won the award hands down as far as I’m concerned and had it taken away and given to Hirano because she is Kadokawa’s favourite media darling. She did afterall advocate for them in Lucky Star which I’m sure was a huge boon for them in terms of revenue not only for the show, but all the Kadokawa wares that popped up during it and were fawned over by the characters. And you know I didn’t even find Konata that good. Aya Endo was much better in her role is Miyuki and Aya Hirano’s Konata reminded me of R2-D2 more than anything with how she delivered her lines one syllable at a time.

Anyway, I don’t blame her at all really, I blamed Kadokawa. It should be them drawing the hate and not Aya Hirano. When are the large media corporations ever going to take the flak for their actions instead of letting an individual take all the scorn.

    Why the hate?

The hatred for Aya is largely mass hysteria, in my opinion. But the fact that she has a style that is not the normal smooth professional pablum seems to bother a sizeable minority of otaku deeply. They honestly feel she is being unjustly praised, and then their virginal frustration takes over and they go crazy together, reinforcing each other’s feelings in a hysterical cycle. She does have advantages: her looks (which appeal to the majority, Kaioshin aside), and the fact that her father is a TV executive (according to rumor). I like her work, and voted for her this year, but she is not the top seiyuu. There are names such as Paku Romi, Kuwashima Houko, Sawashiro Miyuki, Yajima Akiko, Yukino Satsuki, and others whom I would rank higher. But she is good and getting better.

Do not use any < and > for your own sake. It will end the comment there and then. Also, there is an automatic IQ filter which weeds out comments made by those who accidentally got transported from the stone age.
