Seriously, professional sports just does not have the same level of thrill, knife-edge balance and overall intensity as school sports. Because you know a season is long, you can afford to lose a game or even throw it to save you from fatigue. School sports on the other hand, are generally one-off knock-out tournaments, that you have to put your all into as there is no 2nd chance.

Major season 4 tells the Goro story, of him heading to the US and starring in the Minor league. Instead of getting to know the whole team like in the past 3 seasons, this four installment is basically a one-man show, with the occasional patronising episode about Sanders or Keane. Goro comes in, pitches and wins most of the time. We don’t even get the names of half of his team!

There’s no one you really care about, and the rivalry between Gibson Jr and Goro is so petty. "Your dad’s an ass!" "No! Apologise!" "No way!"… like that. The original 3 seasons were by no means realistic, yet there was no such nonsense as bats breaking at the most convenient times. I cried a lot during the first 3 seasons. I didn’t shed a tear in 4.

The basis for judging a sports series is always a) volume of tears shed and b) empathy. Slam Dunk, Capeta, Ookiku Furikabutte and the 1st 3 seasons of Major were all huge tear-jerkers. Season 4 is shit. I don’t see how 5 will improve, since he’s just going to be a Major league player.

American pro sports is just so boring. Why have a 7 game play off when you can have just 1 or even 2? Why have shit load of advertisements? How can you just move your team to another city because of low crowds?

The part about shedding tears is so true. There’s nothing to shed tears for in season 4, while the first 3 seasons left me with pails of them.

Season 5 might be better, since the story’s moving into the Wold Baseball Cup, and Goro’s on the same all-star Japan team together with his old buddies/rivals from Kaidou.

Just to comment about American pro sports having multiple game–the most American pro sport, “Football,” is a one-game deal.

However I actually would rather see my favorite teams go head to head in a best of 7 playoff series because what I’m interested in is the sport, not just who wins. Having up to 7 chances, it’s much, much, much, much more likely to see your dream matchups and drama unfold. If you just have one shot, the game may be a stinker and it would be pretty boring as any one team can have an off day. Not so with 7.

Ah hah, this is why Americans fail to understand and get really fat. The concept here is scarcity. If a great game was common, then it wouldn’t be a great game. That’s why one-off games will always be remembered best. There’s no point in fighting tooth and nail for a mere one game out of seven unless it’s a tie-breaker or something.

If you had to eat gourmet food all day, you would get sick of it.

Why would you have “favourite teams” anyway? You should be a supporter of only one team. American sports fans are what we commonly term “fair weather fans” or “plastics”, who switch loyalty based on who’s winning or exciting to watch or has the hottest cheerleaders.

It’s not just about the “drama” of this show thats important. The concept of this anime is and will alway be about the sport of baseball and Goro. I don’t appreciate how you put down sports as if its just a simple game in your backyard.

A one-game-out is exciting but the competition and sport ends there quickly and players wont have enough games to play against better teams to get themselves better. The trancending of players playing 82 games, 150 games, is important because it makes them better the competition is almost different in each game. 5 or 7 game playoffs is for the competetion of having to play again and getting a chance to get even. Players always want a chance to get even because they believe they can. You’re just an ignorant fan who favors yourself for your excitement more than the players actually playing the game for you. That mindset of yours is typically just of a viewer trying to get out an excitement when you don’t fully realize the competition and especially the sport itself.

As for this anime, your basically saying you want the drama of it and not the actual sport playing in this anime. The genre of this anime is majorly, Sports. Major Season 4 is not the worst, infact it represents this whole anime, Majors!

Well, I agree that the 4th season is the worst so far. But the thing i really enjoyed was that Goro found hardships he had to overcome so he could perform on that level. Tj_han , the childish battle between Goro and Gibsjon Jr. ain’t that bad. Ofc there are som stupid lines that just made me die a little on the inside but if you have some smarts you understand Gibson Jr. reason for being a dick. He was envious on Goro since his father “left” him for Goro (In a way) But in reality Gibson just did what he thought was right and because of that His mother and Gibson divorced. Gibson Jr. Blames Goros father for that and thats why talks shit about Honda. And ofc Goro who loves his father will react on that. But they could do the lines a little better cuz they were kinda retarded sometimes.

actually, just for the record, it is pretty probable for a wooden bat to break when facing a 100 mph ball (actually every ball that goes over 90 mph can break a wooden bat, depending on how the ball “hits” the bat) so yeah. Anywayz, i think in terms of production the 4th season wasn’t the worst. i would say the 3rd was the worst season, it was actually amost a repetition of what happened before and everything was so predictable. And btw, just add OverDrive to your good sports anime list, ’cause it pwns big time =3

I agree the first three seasons were better, but I definitely enjoyed every episode of the fourth season as well.

Do not use any < and > for your own sake. It will end the comment there and then. Also, there is an automatic IQ filter which weeds out comments made by those who accidentally got transported from the stone age.
