Anime Diet is elated because he got flamed. I share his joy, because when I myself got the very first insult from some random online stranger, it was not one of anger, but an occasion to celebrate with a bit of verbal jousting. Remember this post?

Those were the days when I’ll take notice of flamers and actually bother to engage in word to word combat with them. It was fun for me, because I am mean by nature and love to do immature little things that would cause the other party to rip their pubic hair out in frustration. But I soon got bored of flamers because they are seriously quite retarded and zergling-like, so you can’t really deal with them all.

But if you still want flamers for some reason, read on. I’ll be using my vast experience in attracting them, namely with one case study to illustrate how it’s done. Case in point: My wonderfully funny Koizora review post, which is basically exposing how shit that movie was. Read it even if you haven’t seen the show, for it and the following comments are hilarious.

1. Abuse pretty boys by calling them names, like gay, retarded or any other words to that effect.
True men hate pretty boys, and we otaku are fucking hard men on the net. Hence, we must hate pretty boys. But there are many fools on the Internet who love pretty boys, for reasons that are far beyond our comprehension. And these fools will come swarming like ants to candy when they hear of foul things being said of their beloved pretty boys.

To accentuate the effect, insult pretty real life Japanese idol boys. These man-vases have by far the most fanatical followers, making the Fremen legions of Muad’dib pale in comparison.

2. Insult Japan.
You know Japan is some sacred holy land on the web!!? If you criticise any aspect of Japan, you will get flamed. Especially its pop culture, like actors, drama, music etc. Japan’s soft cultural power has taken over the world and people are so brain-washed that they cannot tolerate any criticism of their godland. An example, I said "Japanese actors can’t act for shit. They can only act pretty with the same expression." Hordes of Japanophiles will come swarming, flaming with the likes of "YOU RACIST PIG! I’ll HANG YOUR AMERICAN ASS!" or something. Even though this is a Japan culture blog…

3. Support the anti-piracy attempts of ODEX, the RIAA and whatever cartels.
This is simple and self-explanatory. Everyone thinks the above, plus whatever large corporations are evil and if you offer some sort of balanced view, or even JESUSHARUHI forbid, support them, prepared to get roasted doggystyle on your own blog.

4. Suggest that fansubbers make mistakes, or are egotistical beasts out to con the masses of true anime dialogue.
See Darkmirage, he got flamed so badly (though he loves it, that slut) from the Doremi, Nyoro sagas. Fansubbers are the priests of the anime world, and they decide who lives and dies apparently. Bloggers are like heretics of course. Fansubbers command a huge army of leechers who will verbally attack you if you dare to say their texts are wrong. Wait, sounds like churches in the US. Btw, Darkmirage really got ultra-famous in the mainstream anime website world via the sagas, so get yourself some dorama too!

5. Finally, post a scathing review of something that has a huge fanbase, such as any mainstream romance tear jerkers, Naruto / other shounen etc.
Find out for yourself what happens, Hinano can vouch for this. People tend to get really touchy about stuff they like. I mean, if you insult Planetes and Gintama or GitS, I might flame you as well. And when someone who likes rubbishy shows gets offended, you can get ready to read the unintentionally funny flames. The best is when they claim you have no right to criticise the show because you haven’t made any shows of your own. That argument is so nonsensical, it makes me laugh.

When I had a look at the Koizara post and read through the comments accusing you of discriminating against Japanese, I couldn’t stop laughing. Oh, the irony.

And this is OT/very old, but I finally watched Koizora during a movie marathon organized by my school about a month back and I completely agreed with your review. My friend and I were laughing our heads off while everyone around us was sniffling.

Ah, dorama. Always fun to read about, if you are standing on the sidelines. But then, you might be caught in the crossfire, but that can be good fun too.

    That’s surprising:

    3. Support the anti-piracy attempts of ODEX, the RIAA and whatever cartels.

Then again, you were related to some of the staff over at that company [ODEX], right? (So I wasn’t surprised at that, hur hur hur.)

Beware of the trolls, though. Flamers are easily put down by some biosolvents, a 64MM jet and 3 ATMs’ worth of water pressure.

If by related you mean once spoke to, then yes lol. Also, I am related to the prime minister of Singapore.

That Koizora post’s comments are great fun to laugh at. And if you thought the movie was bad, wait till you watch the dorama.

It’s weird, but when I was a newbie to the internet, I hated getting flamed. These days, I don’t visit forums very often and the ones I do frequent are fairly laid-back so the only time I’m liable to suffer is on my blog; but commenters are usually really friendly and non-confrontational too.

The upshot of all this is that I have amassed a considerable arsenal of potential come-backs, put-downs and insults that I never have chance to use any more. Now I’m ocasionally disappointed that my posts never acquire any controversy because I have a mental stash of logical arguments and juvenile ‘your mum!’ retorts that could flatten a small city, and feel that my writing doesn’t fire up debate.

It’s a sad state of affairs when you WANT to be flamed, isn’t it? I think your desire for “an occasion to celebrate with a bit of verbal jousting.” is pretty much right on the money.

What about if you make fun of idols and pretty VA?

Remember we at Anime Diet are probably still noob-like (not quite 2 years in existence), but hey, I love it when people who flame can’t even write straight, or their flames are so retarded that it makes my day to strike them down with vengeance. I think the verbal “Guitar of Cruelty” ought suffice.

I can’t stop roffling at the “Remember this post?” post.

And yes flamers do help pass time while you’re on the job, provided it’s one with internet access :D
But they exist for people exist. There’ll always be people with disagreeing opinions and free time.

Don´t forget to mention you´ll get flamed if you show of some ecchi pictures of the pokemon games…

I just realized a couple of the Koizora review flamers think you’re female.

“oh well, i suppose all you like to watch are realistic, materialistic movies that they show everywhere nowadays, and those so called hunks in the movies turn you soooooooo on, yeah?”

“You think it’s bad because u’re NOT the target audience of Koizora.
Just like not much boys would like to play simulation games.”

    ROFLMAO.

I did #5 on Kenny Sia a long time ago. And yes, I must admit I was looking for people to verbally antagonize.

That’s nice, I’m getting flamed on my blog right now for trying to get people drunk and I almost forgot I wasn’t living in the 1920’s for a second there. Not very good flames mind you, but flames none the less.

Do not use any < and > for your own sake. It will end the comment there and then. Also, there is an automatic IQ filter which weeds out comments made by those who accidentally got transported from the stone age.
