You know how most anime blogs use header images that are self-made, but with the raw images ripped off doujin artists or image boards? The fact is that few can draw, and even fewer can draw to the standards of what we wish our header images to look like.

Even Darkmirage, the Champion of Otakus, uses ripped off images. It’s only the Jesus-Father level bloggers like Dannychoo ahd Heisei Democracy who get their very own art. I think it’s quite embarrassing if an industry insider ever visits my humble blog and sees a ripped off image that he recognises on top. It’s also even more embarrassing if people visit my site (since I actually do put it on job resumes, so yes you can flame and they will see) and they see cute anime pictures. So I’ve long been wanting to change my header image.

This is my 7th one since the creation of this blog. Surprisingly, it’s not the first 100% original one. The very first image, the 2nd and the 3rd were all my very own. They were taken from photographs that I took. This one is also a photograph of mine.

What do you guys think? I sort of figured that it doesn’t match the rest of the site for now, but I’ll probably just adjust the background colour of the site itself. I wanted a LianYL illustration of all the writers of this site, but he’s probably too busy to do it till the school holidays.

I’ll give you guys a prize of 100 points of epenis if anyone can guess what the item in the picture is and what it does.

Hmm, “Pharmacia Biotech” knowing you do Food Science (iirc) makes me think it has something to do with what you’re studying. Looks like something that involves spinning so uhh…

random guess, spins test tubes or glassware around to make the contents homogenuous (i can never spell that ugh)

I like Yukarin’s spinner theory. I’m intrigued by the notches in the top which suggest some kind of tape or belt could be threaded onto the top. And is that a hingeing perspex lid slightly out-of-focus on the edge of the picture? Curiouser and curiouser.

Looks like a pump. I can’t recall the technical term, but it uses a series of rollers to ‘knead’ fluid through a single rubber tube wrapping around the centre (so sharp blades or pistons don’t damage the contents of the fluid).

just judging from the “flow” and the “biotech” and the arrangement of the cylinders, I’d guess some sort of peristaltic pump.

    ah yes, here we are

Haha… A company that’s bought over by GE Healthcare.

The right link from ekawolfram is this: http://www5.gelifesciences.com/aptrix/upp01077.nsf/Content/Products?OpenDocument&moduleid=12244

Am I correct to say that?

I’m with pseudonymous on this one. It looks like one of those blood pumps used in dialysis machines. I ought to know having a scientific background and all, but eh. It still looks cool.

CLEVER! Yukarin you fail. You’re thinking of a centrifuge machine, but you have mistook its function for a vortex spinner. A centrifuge does the opposite of homogenise lol. So Iknight is fail too.

Meanwhile, we have the smart ones. Pseudo, ekawolf are the first to get it right. You both score 50 points of epenis.

Yes, it does look very cool but the function of it is merely to pump liquids at a very very slow constant rate. How unexciting. I mainly use it to speed up my hydrophobic interaction chromatography or my gel filtration, for purification of proteins.

Not sure if I -DO NOT WANT- new background… or not.
Guess if I get tired I can just feed the page. Though I delight in visiting every so often.

It really does fulfill the RI image in RIUVA now, though.

Let us not forget though, the short-lived あ-chan from Anime Desho Desho.
Oh, so many hopes, dreams, and fantasies gone…

Oh, my, and I just realized it is the one year anniversary since Tsubaki’s あ-chan reveal!

You put your blog on your resume? What kinda of cool job do you have?

  12. 12 tj_han 1440 comments

Bakaneko: I have no job. I’m a uni student. It makes sense in this day and age to include your interests and outside achievements in your resume, particularly for students with a barebones one.

I hope that you’re being sarcastic about that remark. Because if you aren’t, then I clearly need to kick your ass.

Erm, does that mean the old RIUVA logo is now obsolete, lol?

Now you’re making me wonder if I should take the sticker off my laptop. XD

“I wanted a LianYL illustration of all the writers of this site […] ”

That’s a good idea boss, we can get it done during the holidays if Lian is free. I want my illustration to be holding a Claymore sword, is that possible? (:

  16. 16 tj_han 1440 comments

Ascaloth: No, it’s still in use just that it doesn’t fit the header style. It’s on my name card though.

Hynavian: Yeah, you must use your female charms and make him hurry..

    What about the artificial vaginas?

  18. 18 IJ 24 comments

Hmmm, if this is a “personal” site of sorts, I don’t see why you would get into any serious trouble. I think it counts as “fair use” in this context, but I dunno. Anyway, my thought on the whole “bootleg” thing such as they are.

@ekawolfram: Bingo!!! That’s a peristaltic pump, looks like it has flow rate and direction control. “Nice Pump”… I had to say that…

The neat things about these pumps is that they can handle any type of liquid (blood, ink, water), even if there’s air in the lines… I was designing a bunch of these for printers and had a Cole-Parmer to play around with for a while.

How about getting someone to draw a shota-Tripeman for the banner?

  20. 20 bakaneko 2 comments

@tj_han, really? My career counselor tells me to exclude blogs, facebook, xanga, anything that isn’t professional on the resume.

My career counselor lied to me. I want blood now!

): ok i knew i sucked at bio, the only thing i ever did for my pracs in sec 1 and 2 was to mess around spraying ethanol on my hands and squealing ZOMG IT FEELS AWESOME

my excuse shall be that i only take chem. D:

  22. 22 tj_han 1440 comments

Bakaneko: Sure not your personal one of course, but I suppose a more professional one like a food blog which is very popular (or anime blog, but I said it was more a Japanese culture blog) shows the interviewers you have skills like writing, web design and inter personal skills.

    >>What about the artificial vaginas?

Yeah that seems way more embarrassing than cute anime pictures. Granted that you can’t control what the ads says but it kinda ruins the whole professional image thing.

It looks just fine if you ask me. Great work on the banner!!

    Ugly.

Boss, I think coloring the 3D “RIUVA” words might make the banner stand out more, pure black might just do the trick. (:
