With winter imminent within the Illusory World, not all seems to be well as the Girl sleeps longer hours while the little Robot watches. I’m not too sure what the Robot meant when it thought that it will soon be too late if they didn’t move, but somehow it seems like the Girl’s life will be in danger or something if they didn’t. Whatever the case might be, they seem now to be setting out on a quest towards the warm, lively place that the Robot is convinced lies beyond the world they know, risking everything for it. There are still many questions regarding the events in the Illusory World, but it seems as if it’s starting to draw towards a conclusion, as well as the answering of these many questions. At the same time, the series shift into the side story of the CLANNAD canon known as the Yukine Arc, and now, we’ll get to see the story behind the caretaker of the reference room.

CLANNAD ~After Story~, Episode 7.

You know, I can’t help but think; with flammable stuff like books and everything else all over the place, wouldn’t having a gas cooker in the reference room be a violation of fire safety rules in Japanese buildings?  I mean, a coffee machine is one thing, but she’s making fried rice here. It’ll be all too easy to set the whole place in flames from a slip up….

Is it just me, or are there two new light balls in the collection?

This is either an unexpectedly powerful psychological tactic tailored to dispell negative emotions and induce positive ones in their place, or we’re supposed to just recognize it as part of Yukine’s "magic" and leave it at that.

And, yes. Yukine IS a Yakuza anee-ue, in a matter of speaking, LOL. She’s just about the last person one would expect to hold such a high position in the underworld….but I guess even players in the underground need some TLC every once in a while. ;)

So unknown to everyone else in the cast, there was actually a turf war going on between two delinquent gangs in the city? Well, at least it seems like they’re actually full Yakuza, just a group of punks….what’s funny though is how both sides hate each other’s guts, but they all go out of their way to avoid bringing trouble to Yuki-nee. "Fine let’s settle this, but let’s get our asses outta here so Yuki-nee won’t be troubled"; seems like kindness is a useful power in its own right, heh.

I have no idea whether to RAEG at Yuu-kun for being so disrespectful to Yuki-nee, or to RAEG at him for being able to get in such an….interesting position with Yuki-nee, and get away with it because of his young age. :p

LOL at Tomoya’s trickster ways rubbing off on Sunohara. XD

Also, was it just too easy to predict that Yuu-kun would say THAT about Tomoya, or is it just me? XD

It was quite funny seeing Sunohara managing to pull off a respectable front towards a kid, and actually doing it quite competently. Of course, fooling a kid about his positive qualities isn’t that awesome an achievement, but for an apprentice of Tomoya’s Way of the Trickster, it’s a start at least. :p

Of course, part of that successful facade of competency was how I was expecting Sunohara to spew out the usual bullshit, but instead he raises above all (low) expectations to actually deliver a halfway meaningful speech. Seems like the debacle with Mei-chan has left some mark on him after all.

Taking your classes seriously these days, are you Okazaki? Yep, Nagisa is a good influence on him. ^_^

Okay, who’s this guy? I was thinking for a moment that this could be Miyazawa Kazuto, but they mentioned afterwards that Kazuto was in the hospital. If that’s so, who’s this guy, and how is he important enough that the camera cuts to him shadowing the group?

Ah, that’s the random punk who popped out from under the table, and was Yuki-nee’s bodyguard during the Fall Festival to boot. I’ve heard from the game vets that in the game, Yuki-nee’s bunch of delinquents don’t actually get to have faces?

I don’t know about you guys, but I found it hilarious that Sunohara somehow had the presence of mind to use his involvement in the Drama Club as an excuse for his trickery. XD

In a way, it’s a sobering thought to think that these delinquents are basically Okazakis and Tomoyos, trampled upon by society, and not even having the support of family to turn to. Faced with a lack of choice, they’re forced to form their own family, their own support group; in fact, several studies have shown that many who join gangs often do so because it offers a support group they feel they can rely on in their darkest hours. Sometimes, one just has to wonder; have these "failures in life" failed society, or has society failed them?

Enjoying the attention, Alto-hime?

Too bad you’re just one step away from being spoken for in this world, Alto-hime. It’s amusing how Nagisa has such a (relatively harmless) manipulative side too. Also, LULZ at Yuu-kun’s onee-chan covering his eyes; he’s of the age where it’s fine to let him see what romantic relationships are like, right? XD

You know, I swear I’ve seen a similar scene like this before, but I just can’t place my finger on where….

There’s also something about Kazuto that bugs me; why is he going to such lengths to conceal his identity, or perhaps how is it that it just so naturally happens that there’s really no one outside of Yukine who knows what he looks like? Surely the guys in the gang knows, right? Why are there no photos? Is there a particular reason why KyoAni is going to such lengths to avoid showing the guy’s face? Or is it just something in the game itself as well?

Yeah, these guys always go out of their way to accomodate Yuki-nee. It’s becoming something of a gag in itself, really.

Moar Tomoyo goodness.

And the episode ends on a rather strange note, feeling neither particularly right or wrong somehow. It doesn’t exactly feel like a point of climax which KyoAni loves to end their episodes on, but neither does it come across as particularly anticlimatic. It’s just….a base for transiting into next week’s episode, I guess. Words fail me for the task of describing how the way the episode ended made me fail, and the closest word I can think of is "ambiguous". However, there’s nothing ambiguous about the preview for the next episode, so I think we can expect to see some pretty thrilling stuff next week.

Ascaloth, out.

two girls singing karaoke duet… happens in almost EVERY series. but straight off the top of my head, if its kyoani related you want, theres full metal panic S1. you know, when tessa and chidori were singing at the submarine party. (season 1 wasnt done by kyoani though)

It seems to be like Kyo-Ani is putting a lot of anime orignial stuff to spice up Yukine’s route. Well it makes sense since Yukine’s route had many Tomoya x Yukine scenes in it. For one thing Yuu’s problem was settled diffrently, I don’t think the bar was there, and there wasn’t any mention of a gang war. I think this is going to be pretty intresting and I’m looking forward to see what Kyoani can cook up for us.

    lol @ hiding Yukine’s onii-san’s identity..

A very good episode indeed. A tad different from the game but i have a theory for this.

Originally Yukine was supposed to be one of the main characters but either cause of length or not enough material for her story she was regulated to a side-character. I think the anime gives Jun Maeda & comp. reason to extend her scenario by adding things that may have been in the original game. Which kinda explains the ‘2 rival gangs’ , the bar scene, different story around Yuu, etc.

So i’m very interested in what the next few episodes will show for Yukine. Perhaps what they show is what was supposed to be in the original game.

Things HAVE to be changed by necessity in Yukine’s route, since, y’know, we can’t have Yukine starting to like lying down and sleeping on Tomoya’s lap… Without copious amounts of Nagisa jealousy in the adaptation.

Tell me that in the game Tomoyo didn’t literally materialize out of nowhere to save Tomoya and Sunohara’s asses.

I thought this was a pretty bland set up episode. Well, the “setting up” is over, so let’s see where they go with this.

It’s pretty ‘climatic’ if you ask me. Yukine has to explain everything to Tomoyo, the student council president. If the school finds out that Yukine has been involving herself in some sort of gang fights, she’ll be in a lot of trouble.

I enjoyed the episode very much. And judging by the preview, next episode’s gonna be awesome!

That guy is definitely Kazuto… he’s not “shadowing” in a such a way that he seems to be a stalker or any sort of enemy… after the kid say’s he’s counting on “Kazuto” to protect them this unnamed character shows an expression as if though he feels bad about something… maybe he hasn’t been around much for his sister… more speculation so I’ll stop there, but I definitely think he’s Kazuto… not some stalker o_O

    ^ Reply to above.

    Well if you noticed from earlier in the episode referring to when Sudou (guy in the green shirt comes in) another guy from the other gang jumps into the room, and he’s wearing this jacket/pants.. probably like some uniform they like wear to match. The end of the episode shows three other guys from the same gang wearing matching colors/clothes. If you pay attention to the guy hiding behind the street lamp or telephone pole you can see he is wearing exactly the same thing as the other four members of the gang. This leads me to believe that he is actually following them, perhaps to find Kazuto is or to find the other gangs hide out. Proof of this would be at the end of the episode the three gang members that want to fight with Sunohara call him Kazuto.. but how would they know he is Yukine’s brother? (;
