So, What is the Best Shounen Manga Series Now?
Popularity: 12% [?] Published by tj_han December 19th, 2008 in Manga ReviewsI hear you scream, "NOOO, not the dreaded S word!" Despite anime fans’ love of bashing shounen series due to its perceived noobiness, many of us still follow quite a few of the genre’s works. We say "Ew Naruto sucks!" but go out and buy the latest volume when it arrives. I know I do that.
But the truth is, shounen series (let us define them more specifically for this post as a manga geared towards young boys, featuring fighting in an upward spiral of power levels, aka Oudou) aren’t all that bad. Some of the much maligned series now were once exceptionally good, and plummetted into shitdom only after the pressures of commercialism and rabid fandom took their toll.
I shall now explain the good and points of this genre.
Why it does not Suck
It is long. I prefer long manga series, you collect them over years of your life, like over 5-10 years. You feel attached to the characters, seeing them change gradually, or through nostalgia. Like how I’ve known of Luffy since I was 14 years old and I’m now going on 23. I was genuinely sad when Shaman King got fucked up and ended, after so long. In comparison, short manga series don’t have the same impact. In fact, I haven’t up till now seen a short manga series that is memorable enough for me to recall it when people ask me about manga. Maybe Pretty Face and Mx0 but these were prematurely ended.
There are plenty of characters. I suppose it’s like a buffet, with so many dishes, you’re bound to at least like one. I realised I haven’t really worshipped a character in a long time. Might be a result of my growing up, or more probably, a result of my reduced dosage of shounen manga. I have this habit of naming my electrical goods after favourite female characters, and I can’t find enough names to go around! Seriously, there’s a shortage of excellent female characters these days, after School Rumble ended.
There’s lots of fighting. Face it, who doesn’t like fighting? Fighting is the nature of man, and superpowers and elemental powers (and robots, but that rarely appears in shounen) are a man’s dream. Even if the fighting is terrible like in Bleach, people enjoy it. Of course, some shounen have excellent fighting, like HUNTER x HUNTER and Soul Eater.
Power level growth is always exciting. Everyone loves leveling up, If not why would people grind to level 10000 or whatever in WoW? Shounen series have the unique ability to provide infinite levelups and new moves/weapons/characters. I used to play Dota, but after stopping for 4 years, I could no longer get back into it even for leisure, so I watch my brother play. See, when he scores the final hit and gets the gold from the creeps, or kill some random idiot, I get the pleasure too! But when he dies I can gloat, so it’s a win win situation for me.
Why it sucks
It is long. People don’t have money apparently, to buy manga. They also surprisingly don’t have the patience to read through a thousand chapters. Funny, I would think the longer the manga, the more fun you have, since your fun duration lasts longer. I guess people are just too busy. Anything can be marathoned what. In fact, marathons are awesome.
The endings are bad, if there is an ending in the first place. Shounen manga tend to have shit endings because they don’t normally end until their popularity dips enough for the editors to cancel without warning. Or worse, revive them with a Z, or a GT at the back of their names.
Too many retards claiming it is the best anime ever. Yes, they claim it’s better than Ghost in the Shell, Planetes or even Last Exile! It’s frankly bloody embarassing to like the same thing as some random idiot, so people prefer to list more obscure stuff as their favourites. It’s the anti-herd mentality.
Obvious and contrived plot devices designed to pit characters in 1 on 1 fights, and the good guys never lose for real. No death occurs without much melodrama, "ASUUMMMA, SANDAIME!! WAHHH!" Nobody loses because in the nick of time, some random friend will pop up/latent powers emergy/baddie lets the hero go.
Too much act-coolness. Spewing out lines that are aimed at appealing towards the female/retard fanbase, such as "I will show you my true power now" or whatever, and the generally bad dialogue.
What is the best Shounen Series now then? Thanks to my strict definition, Gintama isn’t a shounen.
I personally am following Naruto, Bleach, Air Gear, Full Metal Alchemist (not really a shounen though), Inuyasha (might have ended but I got confused at the volume number), Soul Eater, Fairy Tale, One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Ga-Rei (mind you it’s shit), D Grayman, Eyeshield. If you notice, these are all pretty old besides Fairy Tale, so I haven’t really been introduced to new series.
IMO, the best is probably One Piece followed by H x H, Soul Eater. Naruto used to be really good until after he grew up. Bleach was decent until after the Soul Society arc I think, while D Grayman is just shit throughout. Hunter x Hunter was awesome from the start but it sort of changes in its awesomeness. Now it’s not really about Gon and Killua anymore, but just plain technical fighting. Soul Eater manga is just decent, but the anime makes it fantastic.
Now, why is One Piece the best? It enjoys all the benefits of shounen done right, being long, with super powers, special moves, leveling up and a lot of characters. It also has great and detailed art, with a unique style. Its drawbacks are the deus ex machina battle wins, but OP isn’t really about the HOW of the battle but the end result anyway. Like who won. It does well in boosting the coolness of the characters via the bounty system. The huge cast of characters is well-managed, partly because so few actually join the gang, most just pass by but still make occasional appearances. Overall, there aren’t many retards who like OP and it’s good family fun yet still with violence, so yeah it’s pretty good.
So tell me, what currently ongoing shounen series do you think is best? Why? And have you got any to recommend me?

Do not use any < and > for your own sake. It will end the comment there and then. Also, there is an automatic IQ filter which weeds out comments made by those who accidentally got transported from the stone age.

Is Ga-Rei really that bad? Anyway I would vote Soul Eater just because fighting is pretty good and recent plot developments have made it excellent.
The Ga-Rei anime is awesome.
I did a marthon of 400 OP chapters in a week (I got paid to do nothing) it was awesome, I liked it because you had the feeling of adventure always going to a new place meeting new people (and shipmates).
whenl I reached the end of it,waiting for chapter was tiresome so i dropped it but maybe one day i’ll return to it by buying the manga, limiting myself so i won’t reach the end so quick (It will probably take 5 years until OP will end ;P).
Yes. Some fans hate looong animes. Cause long animes are sometimes too overrated.
Why would you read manga series you consider shit? = =
I wanted to pick up H x H but when I saw the chapter numbers, I died twice.
Snoo: Why would you die? You should rejoice at having lots to read. But don’t start H x H until it’s completed, because it comes out freakin slowly thanks to the many hiatuses.
Jarmel: Yes, it’s terrible. The anime isn’t bad though, and having read the manga you might appreciate the anime better. The main problem with Garei manga is that Kagura is weak shit in it, and the main character is such a loser I don’t even rmember his name.
Kairu: Note we are discussing manga here. Long anime is timeconsuming to watch, but the longest manga is probably still shorter than a full length novel in terms of number of words so you don’t really need much time.
As for why I read shit stuff, cos I invested money in it and dont want to give up halfway. I have tonnes of unread bad manga around frm my younger days, like Get Backers, Samurai Deeper Kyo etc that I promised myself I would get down to reading some day.
Honestly, Yakitate! Japan ought not to end, only until Azuma manages to find his Ja-pan. Which, as we all know, should not be any time soon.
I have to agree with Soul Eater, I picked up the manga because of the anime just to read ahead, and the anime makes it way better because of the action and all. Unfortunately I am wondering why they spoilt Demon Hunter earlier than it happened in the manga. I hope the ending for the anime does not go into some sucky zone.
I mostly agree with your opinions. While I often drop many shounen series, I always somehow always go back to finish them or catch up, kinda like meeting an old friend. Shounen’s more about the journey than destination, I suppose. Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist, Yuu Yuu Hakusho (well that ended a while ago..) and Ranma 1/2 (not really a “shounen” series..but..) I grew up with, and they still have a special place in my heart (Despite never putting them up on a favorites list for the same reason you stated)
*glances around*
Kekkaishi anyone?
But I am a shounen fan through and through. It’s just the… fans… that I can’t stand. I mean, I like Bleach simply because Kubo Tite does those awesome two-lined epigraphs at the beginning of each volume.
You forgot the never give up attitude that the shounen genre teaches. Bleach went bad when Tite Kubo began recycling his own plot though(too many parallels between the Soul Society arc and the Hueco Mundo arc).
Gintama ftw!
@ Panther
Got a feeling is going the same route as what happened to Claymore anime if you know what I mean…
The anime is catching up fast to the manga.
Gintama isn’t a shounen? It’s not a battle manga, but it’s still shounen to me.
Rofuru, duh, if you consider shounen a genre based on target audience, but for this post, I’ve already said I meant shounen shall apply only to battle manga. Sports is a form of battle too.
There are plenty of manga that are shounen but not battle, like School Rumble for instance, besides Gintama.
Kekkaishi is great but I don’t read the manga since it seems to be the same as the anime.
>tj, I actually prefer the wait since it makes me jumpy and I like being jumpy. Wish I started when H x H first came out. orz
Ah, sorry. Kinda missed that.
Does Death Note count as shonen? It’s not exactly standard shonen fare but it’s usually classed as one.
My problem with Shonen is not so much the length. I agree with you when you say longer the better because it means the fun lasts longer. It’s the fact everything gets dragged out to make it longer so that very little happens in an episode any longer. I loved Bleach until the cast increased 10 fold and everything went at a snail pace.
I dunno, but I feel that Negima is nice. It used to be really stupid in the first 6-7 books but after that Negi really put in the effort to work hard to protect his students. Especially now when he learns dark magic instead of the normal light path which the main character would take.
I prefer short series personally. long series tend to drag on far too long (hmmm)
Not big on shounen manga (just Claymore I guess, maybe Gantz if that counts), but I have a simple rule for shounen anime that’s done me well so far: If it doesn’t have a fixed length, avoid it like the fucking plague.
Well, I am a huge fan of Full Metal alchemist, I think it’s a great manga
Shounen animu > Shows that cover up lack of substance with Moe characters and amg visuals. Same goes for manga.
Shounen fans > Moe fans. Shounen fans tend to have more of a life. Also, I’d rather get into a discussion about who has the coolest powers in D-Gay man than talk about who is the cutest girl in Toradora (rofl@”ore no yome!!” discussions).
That said, most shounen manga are readable and have a decent draw to them. Yes, even Neruto. “Best” series in my opinion is the ongoing Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, as well as the more popular One Piece and FMA.
Shounen?
Not for me..
I don’t know about manga, but shounen anime tends to be draggy at most time..
I read Project ARMS and quite liked it even though it was so predictable. And Blade of the Immortal is quite awesome as well.
Even though I’m a girl, I don’t really like shoujo manga, shounen is waaaay better. For me, Soul Eater is good, but I prefer the anime than the manga. I’m reading Katekyo Hitman Reborn now. It’s funny, and I think they have good fighting scenes.
Boss, you left out Claymore and I would recommend it to you!
Claymore also has unique artwork with detailed backgrounds for many scenes. The style is not at its best for volume 1 but it gets better as the volume progresses. The armors and weapons characters use are given correct emphasis at the right time and that all add to the awesomeness of the artwork.
Currently at volume 14-15, the plot is still unpredictable with new characters entering and old characters leaving unexpectedly. There is a magnitude of characters that are likable and they have different skills. Running on a “start from n00b level but level up slowly” route, characters progress to become better skilfully and mature in the process too. The best part is that the antagonists have cool forms, skill and a hard to grasp attitude that make them awesome.
If you’re interested to read Claymore, I’ve the raw and english version. Let me know okie! (:
Can’t believe nobody mentioned this….Hajime no Ippo. Been running since 1989 with 84 Volumes out and still has me following it. Will also be animated from where it left it off last when it was animated i believe this coming january 2009…..This video will speak for itself on why i like this series http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=O7Vh8tVPjHk
Other series i personally follow are Claymore, Gantz, Air Gear, Tenjou Tenge, and initial D
Naruto -taking too long to progress, although I still read it…..
Bleach- 9/10 till soul society, and 6/10 after……
Air gear - somehow after spitfire is dead the story gets weird
HXH - still like it, though I hope the author would make it ends
one piece- still interesting to read I think
Gantz - although it’s a sick sick world, I still like the thrill
Claymore - kinda like it but hate it…..well bu still a great series
but
actually right now I would vouch for PSYREN, it’s quite new but it has a lot of interesting elements. I really recommend this one for now.
Agreed. BTW GANTZ is not shounen!!! It’s above that already, like seinen.
Psyren is the shounen version of Gantz and I recommend it too.
gintama is shounen to me. and the best among all of them right now imo.
but yea hajime no ippo rocks too.
I love a lot of these series, even though I have only been reading most of them for a couple years now. I would like to mention Gash Bell, which I think is one of the best ones out there.
One piece! There’s nothing quite like it. Setting aside the typical dumb protagonist who only appears cool when the situation calls for it (Luffy XD), OP is ingenious and full of spontaneity.
Eyeshield21- great football manga! doesnt focus on the sport itself so much but more on the cast. like any other sports manga, every game drags to around 10 chapters..ugh
Naruto and Bleach used to hold my interest but i stopped following it after 3 or 4 years when the authors started running out of ideas and when it started progressing at a snail’s pace.
Death Note is like “WOW!” when i first read it but after L dies the rest of the manga turns and ends crappy.
Claymore and Full Metal Alchemist have wonderfully written plots and are very intriguing. Major drawbacks: they’re only released once a month and it’s easy to lose interest in it because of that.
Other shounen manga worth reading are Kekkaishi, Fairytale, Yakitate Japan (not updated >.
I agree, one piece is a guilty treat. Though at times I do end up putting it down and following up when something interesting comes around but its a great adventure thats well paced and sprinkled well with conflicts and exposition. I still follow it because I’m always curious what locale they end up in and where it leads to their final goal (which imho is still far far off. Much far off).
Flame of Recca - many will claim it copies heavily from YYH (and even DBZ) in the first arcs, but it forms itself rather well in the second and final arc which sets everyone up quite well! It has a good cast of side characters that are also well expounded on and the ending, though DEUS EX-ish (a strong trend in shounens) was very satisfying.
Buso Renkin - haven’t read much of the manga, keeping tabs with the anime. Its generic, its done by Watsuki and that is why its great. It doesn’t take itself seriously and takes you on an awesome wild ride.
Naruto - its funny but after all the other characters introduced, I start kinda caring about Zabuza and his trap heterosexual partner for life Haku. Zabs was so badass in the end of his line. More so than the way Sandaime died, Jiraiya died or kakashi died. The pacing did get slow as a snail and unfortunately, plot twists can be seen from simple foreshadowing from a mile away. Also some elements completely disappeared that I kinda wanted more of, like team related battle scenarios in certain locales.
Bleach - was the freshest thing I read of five volumes. I dare not tread to SS because of the recycled characters and character designs from Kubo’s former work, Zombie Powder.
AirGear - True that after spit died, the story kinda goes wayward. Like a giant side episode (even during the current Gram Scale tourny) but I think it will catch up. I hear Tenjo Tenge is ending and that may lighten Oh Greats’ creative load
While new shounen is decent/bland, how about old SJ? Fist of the North Star, Jojos Bizarre adventure, Slam Dunk among others that may not share the whole sword-magica-ninjafu that the new series share but are crazy, compelling and full of creativity.
oh yeah, yakitate japan ended at volume 25. I’m trying to keep up though the TV show arc is following up well with Azuma’s real loss being a trivial (and like a paid advertisement) one. However I kinda read a bit ahead and it does have an interesting twist before the apparent ending, very much so involving kirisaki.
ONE PIECE!!!!! hi stacy chwan!
The first and Foremost best would have to be
1. One Piece For being kickass all the way through.
2. Naruto; Became lame after Shippuden after afetr the sage arc is now cool again.
3. Air gear: Provides a fairly decent story with interesting twists even though I adit it kinda got confusing after Sora and Nike paired up.
4. Bleach: I loved it till the bount arc and was cool till t sarted to drag on in fights. Where everyone reveals they have atleast 3 “level-ups” every fight. Kinda gets annoying where you’re all like “whew the enemy is finally dead” and the enemy pulls something out f his a**.
5. History’s strongest disciple Kenichi: I can’t believe nobody listed this. While there are no insanely cool mega moves it is al real with all the moves used being actual moves from different disciplines. It was really awesome till the anime stopped at the equivalent of cp. 116 and then it became focused on the hero’s love interest who is in my eyes just manipulative. A must read for pure martial arts enthusiasts.
Hajjime no ippo and flames of recca are pretty good too. For intersting powers and moves though not very original.
i agree that one piece is really good, and the adventures are great. bleach is just repeating itself after the soul society arc. naruto goes awry when he grew up. my favourite is FMA.great storyline and plot, kind of unpredictable.
HxH is a great manga but when will it end? the begining of d.gray man was pretty excitting but it was bad when they went to china. eyeshield 21 has a good storyline throughout but the i never know what their top goal is but it is funny.
deathnote was awesome. it is a great manga throughout but it was short.
One Piece IS pretty good… but after the arc where they fight the superpeople and where luffy gets his gear powers, it gets kinda weird, same with air gear after spitfire dies. In bleach it always turns into a group of 1 on 1 fights, so it gets boring. Shaman king was good, but then the ending was totally messed. It’s like:
“Let’s go defeat Asakura Hao!”
And then it ends. Good thing Takei is now going to give it a proper ending… the thing with shonen mangas is that at the beginning it’s usually awesome, then it goes decent, and then after a while it becomes shit OR it’s good the whole time, and then it stops abruptly, like Fight no Akatsuki. I mean, the beginning of Naruto was, in my opinon great, and now look at it. In Bleach the same thing happens, also, there is no actual goal! Bleach could go on forever! And we all know Naruto isn’t going to become Hokage anytime soon even though the mangka i think it was mashima?, said that he has an ending in his mind. Deathnote is probably the only shonen manga I know that concluded properly. Also, Beet The Vandel Buster is pretty good, and so far, it has an actual goal for the whole storyline, and some pretty cool weapons.
Hey guys, i was searching for the best shonen manga in google and i found this page….You all seem to know a lot about manga so maybe you could help me a little? I recently started reading manga but i have no clue which mangas i should start reading. I don’t like shojo very much ( although I’m a girl) and almost all the mangas you mentioned seem interesting but which would you recommend me to begin with? thanx!
Evelyn,
if you haven’t read onepiece, you are doing an injustice to yourself. it is easily THE BEST SHONEN manga out there. no questions.
FMA(full metal alchemist) is also very enjoyable….although i finally read to the most current chapters and it KILLS me to have to wait 1 month for each release. Remember though! Manga is where its at.
Anime is just one directors vision of how the manga should be viewed. When you read it, the world becomes your own imagination and that just makes it part of yourself. The characters become part of you. A lot of my friends watch anime and i yell at them all the time for not reading the mangas. Lousy no-imagination peoples!!!
in my honest opinion
the best shonen manga is by far Berserk, lots of fighting, best visual and artwork and a story line so exciting that you can never guess whats happening next. the differece between this manga and all the rest its like comparing a Ferrari to Honda, Suzuki, Toyota group….
After that i agree that one piece is the 2nd best shonen manga, followed by Naruto, Bleach, and so on.
Also you are forgetting another Masterpiece Shonen Manga’ Battle Royale” that manga got me stuck on it since chapter one.
so there you go, if you have not read berserk do yourself a favor and read it now. first we chapters need some patience to get used to but after a few volumes you will be rewarded with the greatest manga adventure ever told…………….
If you liked Berserk, then I’d recommend Shin Angyo Onshi. It’s also an epic dark fantasy action adventure series, but it ends and has gorgeous art.
@tj_han: You really should read Kekkaishi. It continues far after where the anime ends and is all about the technical aspects of fighting, less so than just powering up. In that vein, its more similar to HxH or Mx0, which is why I like it better than most of Shounen Jump, although those are enjoyable, too.
One Piece takes the cake (was there even any doubt…). I second History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi.
Gintama is popular among salarymen, so it’s not shounen IMHO, no matter how funny it is.
I don’t consider Fullmetal Alchemist shounen, but if it is, I would put it at number 2.
Sports wise, definitely Hajime no Ippo. Though personally I like Ookiku Furikabutte better (Any anime that was so good that even some male fans were willing to admit they cried when watching should definitely be listed, the manga drawing is not as good as the anime unfortunately, it’s hard to differentiate characters at times).
Kekkaishi was pretty good, I need to catch up with the post anime stories.
Not bad 2010 looks like a good year for kicks. A knick fitted with go fly with those deep orange kicks..
Have any of u guys even see katekyo hitman reborn before? The first 20 episodes are pretty boring but after that the show is awesome! Watch the first 20 to know what’s going on but yeah the show is so awesome I rate it 10/10!
i will not speak about the old mangas but i want to tell that the best new manga is Psyren.Man,it is awesome and i wonder why it is not so popular…pls everyone give it a try..you won’t be dissapointed…
all the fight scenes in berserk had me stuck watchin it. the ending to it was just to strange though. thought they could have done that better. because of the ending can’t say its best..
started watching bleach/naruto bout the same time. naruto is really good at the moment. the whole akatsuki thing is getting really interesting. the zanpaktou story in bleach seems to be dragging out a bit. still can’t help watching them though. anybody know when thats gonna be over and they get back to normal story?
one piece is unbelievable. imo they’ve kept the storyline interesting since day 1. 400 eps and still going strong!
FMA is great to. probably has the best story out of the lot. its just so clever how they done it and makes you think about stuff other than mindless fighting
@masterjohn
BERSERK ISNT A SHONEN
WHEN HAVE YOU SEEN TITTIES (WITH NIPPLES), SEX EXTREME GORE AND GUTS IN NARUTO ONE PIECE AND BLEACH. Berserk is what you call a Seinen manga
yay for one piece being the best shonen
well i love historys strongest disciple kenichi.. it’s awesome! well it got all the big balloon of a tits.
I really like Bleach at the moment I know I know shit is repeated but whatevs I still like it. At least the artwork is nice. Naruto is so gay now I loved it when I first started reading it. He was badass, now all he does is cry about that one guy. You know it’s going to end with them getting married. Anyways I’m in a predicament I want to read great Shonen but I can find anything I really like. I have a short attention span so if it starts off too slow I give up I also want pretty drawing Hajime no Ippo is not cute. Oh and something that comes out frequently I’m tired of reading shit that comes out once a year.
I loved the Naruto Manga, then after the first couple of chapters i felt like it was falling appart. Anyway after he start to learn sage i really started to get into it again, epic fight with Pain and stuff. Thn it happened again it fell apart (Reason: Too much Angst). Anyways “cry some moar”. I like onepiece and all but i don’t really get into that much.
Manga that i have found to like but thought could have lasted longer: Black Cat, Ruroni(sp?) Kenshin, Tri Gun and a couple more that i can’t think of.
Bleach was never really my stuff i mean i read it untill i think what was ep 100 in the animated version and then i just, stopped. FMA is cool i just forget to read it most of the time.
I find myself really bored now all the what i consider ‘good manga’ are either finished or are starting to decompose. I guess its just me but don’t you fell that we need a brand-spainking new manga that everyone can drool over and stuff like that.
PS. I hope kishi kills off Sas-Ghey i hate the charater soo much >:C
I think there are some great reads out there waiting to be discovered. That’s why I check out websites like these and others to find out people’s opinions. i am really bored with most stuff out there too, but I also think it takes time to build up a great Manga so even if something is great it takes a couple years for people to recognize it. Plus the fact that I’m in the U.S. so it takes even longer for good stuff to be passed along. No instant gratification for us.
i’m with kuro. even though i’m a girl too, i take more interest in shounen manga because of all the fighting. don’t get me wrong, vampire knight is ok too, but i read about the plot twist on wikipedia and then i was like, ‘wow, this kinda sucks….’ so i don’t read it. i’m a big fan of violence and love to see characters fight, it’s really awesome. so, these are my top favorite mangas.
ok, in my opinion Naruto is the best. i know, i have to agree with you guys, it is falling apart a little, but i do find myself liking it even tho it now sucks. a lot of you are right, it is predictable! i have actually heard that is somewhat finished in japan and have heard from a lot of ppl that Naruto and Sasuke fight in the end, NAruto dies, than little weakass sakura comes along and kills Sasuke then herself and sumhow they all come back to life and live happily ever after with NAruto as hokage…. blech…. but now, my friend and i think that will change a bit. since sakura is going off to fight sasuke (who is currently fighting danzo) i’m sure she is going to find him, and being as weak as she is (god i wish she wasn’t so annoying and weak in the series) will get her ass knocked around and then right before she dies Naruto will come and save her and then it will progress as i have stated above. or sasuke just dies and they move on with their sorry livs… i do hope that NAruHina becomes a thing in the series tho, i mean come on, Hinata freakin confessed (after like, 15 seasons) that she loved Naruto, and then kishi totally forgot about it! they need to happen or a lot of ppl are gonna be pissed. as for the progressing at a snails pace thing, they release a new chapter on onemanga every week so i don’t think it’s that bad……
bleach is tied with fma right now, even tho i read bleach a LOT more than fma. imo the fma chapters are waaaaay too long and i don’t have the time to waste reading 3 chapters in everyhor wheres as with bleach i read atleast 10 in that time period. bleach is ok, tho i like the anime a little better (i was on like episode 189 b4 i had to stop since i couldn’t find any more of the episodes on youtube) however, after they got the espada stuff started on adultswim, i picked it back up there. in the manga i’m on chapter 141, where the fight between renji and kuchiki teichou (yes, i call him that since i respect him more than any other captain, who i have all dubbed with stupid nicknames) is about to start. i really could have cared less about the bount arc, it wasn’t really meaningful imo. however, after i went thru it the hueco mundo and espada arcs had me hooked. i like the espada a lot, especially grimmjow and szayel. i had to stop after grimmjows final battle with ichi since i couldn’t find the rest of the episodes. but yes, KT has a bad habit of not letting characters go. of course grimmjow and uryuu probably won’t die and aizen will just disappear after getting his ass kicked by ichigo.
fma is good too, i’ve seen most of the anime episodes. i don’t really get the second part of it, fma brotherhood. i thought it would just be set after ed goes over to wat would be our world but noooo, it starts back over at the beginning…… -_-’ if anyone can tell me more about it, please do….
another manga that i read (tho i doubt it’s a shounen) is Higurashi no naku koro ni. i’m on the fourth arc in both the anime and manga i think. a lot of ppl say that it’s confusing, but i don’t really think so. it’s fun to read how each character dies and is developed each time the series starts over. my favorite character is the series’ so called “Mion”. she’s pretty cool. i haven’t read it in a while however, since i’m on Bleach right now and really want to get caught up in it, and because i’m still reading Naruto. i wish the new chapter would come out already tho, i hate waiting each week…..
inuyasha is good too, tho i haven’t had the heart to read it or stay up til 4 in the morning to watch it. and i don’t feel like waking up at that time since i stay up til 2;30 watching other animes…..
deathnote is also a good one. i haven’t watched all the episodes and i think it will be pretty pointless after L dies anyway….. but, i probably will finish it later just to say i have…..
u all will prbably hate me for this, but i really don’t see why one piece is so interesting. i mean, stretchy pirates, how gay can u get here!? it does seem funny, so i might give it another try in the far away future, so it may actually turn out to be ok….
also, a manga that i ahven’t read, or watched in years is rurouni kenshin. i think it’s called samurai x in america actually, at least, that was what the episode box at hastings said when i saw rurouni on the cover of it…… oh wait, nvm, it was a movie….. ^^’ (thank u wikipedia). anyway, i used to watch it as a kid, (like 5 years ago i think) and i haven’t seen it since then. i really want to get back into it, but it’s more of a cross between naruto and bleach from wat i’ve read so far imo……
