I’m a fan of FPS games in general over RTS. I’m a fan of killing human players over killing CPU-controlled bots. Hence I find co-op games quite boring in general, unlike some of my friends who find pleasure in playing Battlefield against 32 bots a la Helm’s Deep. Left4Dead threatened to change that, with its really fun and innovative gameplay which for the first time showed me how teamwork can be fun.

But upon finishing all 4 campaigns, I got bored again. I’m not the sort who’ll go and master every nook and cranny of the map, unlike LianYL. I’ve played through every campaign a couple of times, and now it’s kinda boring. But it’s still a great game, and the best aspect of it is how the gameplay reflects the gamer’s personality.

I have a friend, let’s call him CHONGCHING. Well he’s called that. Anyway, to him Left4Dead is about fragging special zombies. As such, his priorities are fragging special zombies>surviving>helping teammates. Stats are everything to him. It reflects his real-world personality of being competitive with regard to tangible results, and being insensitive to others.

Now LianYL on the other hand, he’s more interested in getting through the most difficult modes in the easiest ways. Like breaking down secret doors etc. It’s like, you skip through half the way thanks to the secret door, but if you’re going to skip through a game that builds its fun on the process, what’s the point of playing the game? But to him, the fun is in beating the system.

Quite a lot of bloggers play left4dead now, including Guncannon, Double etc. Play L4D with them and see their true colours!

As for myself, I tend to just slack off with a hunting rifle. I don’t really fire much, except at stuff that I know the others won’t get, such as a faraway smoker or boomer. My zombies killed score is always less than half of the others. I don’t friendly fire either for the same reason, I might even shove more often than I shoot lol.

The versus mode is quite unfun though. Here’s why.

Actually it’s more like I’ve beaten the game using conventional methods far too many times. Exploits make the game more interesting.

Hmm…I got low frags, low special monster kills, high friendly fire. My only saving grace is high headshots. Shld hav stuck with a sniper rifle.

Boomer is the most fun! I live to explode!

I personally like playing the survivors as well because it’s extremely satisfying to complete a level than it is to grab all the humans as infected. It’s so much more difficult but so much more rewarding. My friend and I have 2 other people we always play with so we have everything coordinated pretty well.

L4D was pretty good. Know what would make it better? if they incorporated the ‘Punch’ and ‘Stomp’ attacks from Dead Space into the game. Dead Space is fun for me cos I spend more time whacking and stamping all over my enemies instead of shooting them.

Versus is what i’ve been playing most of the time since I got L4D. The human controlled element just makes it more chaotic and exciting. Going back to normal campaign is kinda boring since you know the special infected won’t be as sneaky or strategic. Cooperative play matters a lot as survivors in versus though (since the infected are human and are constantly attacking you), so if you get stuck with a crappy team, it gets annoying.

I just played a Left4Dead campaign.

To me, L4D is all about grabbing an assault rifle, standing in front of a door like Gandalf, yelling “YOU! SHALL! NOT! PAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!”, holding the trigger for a full minute while emptying 20 clips of rifle ammo, until I see an entire pile of “yesdead” corpses littering the whole place.

L4D is fun to an extent for me.

Nothing will be better and more fun than COD 4 overall as an FPS at this moment.

I find FPS boring after a while, especially when it’s vs CPU. Or vs some uber gosu players so that I’ll die every time I respawn.

Do not use any < and > for your own sake. It will end the comment there and then. Also, there is an automatic IQ filter which weeds out comments made by those who accidentally got transported from the stone age.
