   I love Ali Project. Oh, snap. Such gall and defiance I have.

   In fact, I don’t even know how their songs sound like because I’ve never gone beyond the first line. I love it when people criticize what they haven’t heard.

   The songs fit but all sound the same and terrible. God forbid an opening theme suit the series!

   Naturally, you’re entitled to your opinion, but I think you’ll have to give a more insightful argument before you convince anyone. I’ll allow that many of Ali Project’s music is in the same key and they repeat many of the same themes, but it suits their style and makes them stand out very well. Obviously, it’s very easy to recognize their music as their music. The mood and general feel of their sound suits most of the series they provide music for, so it could also be said that many series have repetitious themes and subject matter too.

   As someone who had formal theoretical training on music, I can say Ali Project Music lacks any sense of coherence that is found in any serious Classical music piece composed in 20th and 21st century, thus I resent it being called neo-classical. Their music sounds like rambling of some drunkards just expressing whatever comes to their mind at the moment, patching it together and shipping them to production without any consideration of refining what they have. In contrast, Beethoven’s 5th symphony’s first 4 notes were product of something like 10 year of refinement of original musical idea.

   Kiri: Of course I exaggerate, I’ve heard at least the 1.30 minute versions of the Ali project openings hence I’m able to comment. Only once though, always the first time. All their songs are the same as you said, and that is a good thing? Anyway congrats to being the first 2 (including the other guy below) people the world has ever seen who like the group.

   Maglor: Indeed, my girlfriend who’s in a choir commented that it’s so messed up (the new Opening for Sorakake) that on first hearing there’s no form or structure, just a bunch of shitty lines with the same old tune.

   For the people who like it, seriously, why?

    Kind of weird, because watching the ‘Animelo’ performances showed me that the singer can sing normally and has a pretty decent voice. I don’t really like the ‘Ali Project’ style myself.

    I actually thought that the songs they did for Avenger (lol) were good (lol again). And then when I heard their songs the second, third, fourth times… I made sure never to sully my eardrums with their garbage anymore.

    Once you’ve heard one of their songs, you’ve heard them all. But you could also argue and say they developed a distinct “style”. Otherwise it could also be translated to laziness or cock sucking.
    Either way, I’m not that bothered since their songs don’t turn me off nor make the show any more enjoyable, its like a free side dish. You can choose to eat it or not. (=

    They have their own style which.. I don’t really appreciate. Most of their songs sound the same, and I’ll gladly choose, let’s say, SOUL’d OUT over ALI PROJECT anytime. Ali Project is simply meh to me.

    I like the first Code Geass ED and the Rozen Maiden OP. There’s something about the strangeness of the tune and vocals I find rather appealing.

    I completely agreed with you. It does take time to get used to her music. I do really wish she would make more of the cheerful and happy songs like Wish and Peony Pink. Personally, I never heard the new Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo opening so I wouldn’t know. Every artist has their own “unique” style and don’t forget there ARE people out there who still love her music. Honestly, I never heard so much hate for Ali Project coming from you. If you’re going to hate someone, hate the composer (Mikiya Katakura, btw).

    their music is not something that can be appreciated by tone deaf swine. There is a deep asian influence incorporated in all of their songs, which is lacking in a lot of asian music these days.     I didn’t like them too when I heard them first time. But they’re quite beautiful if you listen to their music for a while. It’s just that it’s non-standard so you can’t really understand the style if you listen once or twice.
    Well, I’m definitely not a fan of them, and I’d rather have a classical op for sorakake (perhaps from the same girl who did otome second op), overall I think they fit well in many cases.

    I think you guys only listen to their crappy anime music. Anime music in general is crappy. Its only popular with weeaboos and otakus. listen to other albums that are NON-Anime related from Ali Project. There are different sounds for all of them(Not the anime ones they all sound the same.) However, I think their instrumentals are great.

    I think the previous poster said there is “no structure”, that it’s all a bunch of garbage pasted together. I agree to a degree. If you listen to classical music you get all these chromatic ideas, and themes that get repeated up and down the scale. If you listen to popular music, you’ll see a dominant melody, then the IV or V chord, which is called the bridge, then you repeat the dominant melody.

    What I find strangely appealing to the Ali Project is that they have a lot of the feeling of a noise band, where they break these traditions, but they also use a lot of the same instrumentation and musical riffs through their songs, so you put it all together and what do you get? There is this feeling of strangeness and familiarity.

    If you think all their songs sound the same, then I can’t imagine what you say about modern 12 bar blues where you could take the bass, guitar and drum lines from every song and mix & match at will.

    So I don’t think arguments about their songs not having structure nor of sounding the same, hold up, noise bands have less structure, and blues bands sound more the same.

    But you’re right, there is too much noise or rather too much compression. That’s true of all music today :-(. The post production people get ahold of the compression knob and turn it all the way up so everything sounds like static and hiss instead of music. They do it so when people dl stuff from itunes, their music sounds “louder” but it makes all music sound garbagey. that’s not the fault of the musician though.

    one more thing. I think this “cut up” style has some stylistic similarities to the beat generation cut ups like burroughs, kerouac and ginsberg, but even more the music feels like a modern MTV video with extremely fast cuts, where it deliberately seems not to make sense, seemingly nonsensical chord progressions, dropped themes, but it’s all very similar to the video style of the “Crank” movies.

    The very thing you complain about it what holds a lot of interest in this kind of music.

    i do kinda like how they sound, but i only keep one of their albums because lets face it. every fucking song sounds the fucking same. thats why i only keep ONE of their albums. heard one, heard them all.
