Gundam 00 Ends. Or does it?

Apparently evil Jupiter aliens will invade Earth in 2010!

The final episode, 25, concluded the 2 seasons of Gundam 00 and I have several points to make regarding the show.

Let’s keep it real short.

1. The Gundam designs are probably the most aesthetically-pleasing in a super-robo sense, ever in a Gundam show.
2. But they don’t make sense. Why does Ribonse (I’m going to make up my own romanticised names here because the real ones are really retarded) have a Gundam that looks like a fat Rick Dom from the front and a sleek Astray Gundam from the back? How do they fit the cannon into its head?
3. The skinny Gundam that Tieria carries around on his fatty Gundam’s back. Now that is the weirdest ever in the Gundam universe.
4. Archer Kyrios is not much of an upgrade is it? Why the fuck does it magically show up when Soma magically defects? Why does it look like GM? What purpose does it serve when attached to Kyrios?
5. I still like most of the Gundam and mecha designs from the show, notably the custom Flags. I like Gundam 00 with the All-Raiser addon as well, it really does look like a cool version of the uncool Gundam Wing Zero Custom.
6. There are way way way too many different mecha models in this show and I have forgotten 90 percent of them.
7. Marina is bloody useless and serves no purpose in the show. I bet she had a role at first but got cut due to script changes.
8. Ditto Serji and Louise.
9. The final battle of Hallelujah was awesome, you can’t really tell who’s the bad guy. He’s pure evil.
10. The world view and politics of Gundam 00 is so simplistic you can’t help but imagine it’s written for 10 year olds. Wow, so A-Laws are gone and suddenly the world is at peace united as one. Magically, Azadistan is fixed.
11. The only way conflict can truly be resolved is through the Ribonse method, which is essentially global totalitarianism. But no, Celestial Being says it’s not fair, humans must all walk together, if not it’s meaningless! Personally, I subscribe to Ribonse’s school of rule. Anime which deal with war and politics have this nasty tendency to dumb things down and rebutt the arch enemies with fluffy lines such as "It’ll be pointless if we have the good things but if we didn’t do it ourselves!" One other show this season has the exact same line, I can’t remember if it’s Munto or Druaga.
12. Watchmen is in a way similar to Gundam 00. CB are vigilantes. Ozymandias is sort of  like Ribonse. But while Watchmen accepted the final result as being more important than the means, Gundam 00 chose to go the usual feel-good route.
13. Did anyone notice the large number of Innovators/Innovado in the crowds in the epilogue?
14. MS Igloo is far better than G00.
15. G00 is far better than all the other formulaic mecha shows out there released recently, such as Linebarrels. But I know Basquatch will be far better. That is because G00 is mechaporn.

Edited:

16. Yes, Kurogane reminded me. Exia shows up from nowhere and in typical USB plug and play fashion, inserts a GN drive and starts doing his thing. Ribonse does the same. I guess USB is in.
17. I find it ok that in the final battles, Gundams were fighting without limbs. Truth is, what the hell are limbs used for anyway? Especially the legs, you can’t kick people as mecha, due to Newtonian laws! Not that these apply. In the same line of reasoning, a fragile 5-digit hand with enough dexterity to sword fight punching an armoured face? That’s the equivalent of using your balls to attack a porcupine.
18. I think Sunrise has cooperated with Blizzard. Makes sense. Now Gundam 00’s world has been unified, just like the Terran homeworld of Earth. Soon, they’ll form the United Powers League and then discover the Zerg and Protoss and then change their name to the United Earth Protectorate. So the movie is actually about Terran forces with Gundams fighting Zerg and Protoss!

    “Linebarrels”

I think we can safely say, that show was one of the worst that has been around lately.

As for 00 end, I enjoyed it, it was a fun ride, Hallelujah and Exia was probably the highlights for me. The only incling we got it was coming was Sumeragi telling Ian “Get the R2 ready” Which is what Exia mark 2 was probably called considering it had to be rebuilt.

There was a gundam patch for starcraft remember?

Ah the “ending” was too hilarious. I’m really looking forward to Gundam vs. Aliens lol.

Agreed the Hallelujah fight was awesome, the Lyle fight was good too considering he beat Revive with half a Gundam (then again, it’s a proven fact that both Revive and Healing suck at piloting).

I’d prefer if they called it Aliens vs. Gundam. It just flows better.

Anyway, MS Igloo is itself a pretty formulaic show when you get right down to it. Going in to any given episode you pretty much know what’s in store and are there for the pilots final chapter and awesome CG action sequences.

As for totalitariansm as a solution for global conflict…..no, doesn’t work, even a cynic should know that. Peace at the end of a gunbarrel is the most fragile piece of all and it takes just one spark of revolution to throw the whole system into chaos and to start a massive clusterfuck of a civil war like the kind you get in some 3rd world countries every few years. The people need to be enfranchised, have a government that works for them and not for itself and most importantly need to consent to a form of government and the power it holds in order for it actually last. Propaganda can help cement a totalitarian government a little, but eventually the truth leaks out and that’s when the culture conflict starts.

I think Gundam 00 simplifies all of this for it’s target audience, but it’s more or less got the basics down. Too bad we’ve seen it all before.

In the movie Aeolia will rise from the grave and lead an army of winged whales against the federation.

With so much crappy romance in the show I must say that Patrick x Katie was by far the best pairing.

Gundam Century, that glorious, imbalanced SC mod. \o/

The Innovados were probably Veda’s agents. Old habits probably won’t change.

I want to see how the Reborn Cannon/Gundam transformation works in model kits. I’ll probably be forced to buy two of them. Gah, Bandai.

Kaioshin: Didn’t elaborate, but I think a nice freedom-stripping machine overlord should do nicely for governance and administration. Which is why Veda-ruled Earth should be far better than one policed by CB. The machine overlord should be able to rule the world as one and not as separate countries with individual interests, which will lead to better distribution of resources and development on the whole.

@tj_han: Sounds like the concept behind a Stargate SG-1 episode I saw. It didn’t quite work though and it probably wouldn’t work here because placing all your faith in a machine to account for any and all outside circumstances and to guide you right no matter what is no more or less idealistic then having Celestial Being do it. Other examples where it didn’t work include Megazone 23, The Terminator and The Matrix.

I think just because they cut out the part after Ribbons was defeated and before the epilogue doesn’t mean the world is perfect, A-LOLs defeated=solved everything. Wouldn’t be fair to presume that.

Why compare it to linebarrels? So different. You might as well compare it with Toradora.

You need upper limbs for, erm, wielding beam guns and light sabers? Mr Bushido would fail without limbs.

I like the gundam vs Zerg/Protoss idea. Queen Marina of Zerg :D!

You want to know where is the problem with Gundam 00 ?

Fan will hate me but …. Gundam 00 is just a pretext to rip-off plot from other series, If you try to pretend that “nothing is original anymore” just remember that’s there is a difference between re-using classic plot like “A world secretly controlled/Influenced by a computer” and making sure it ressemble the “The secret organisation to unite the world by the use of a incredible plan with incredible prevision and that was imagined by a old men hundred years before” …Just like Isaac Asimov Fondation.

Here is the list for those who don’t believe me, keep in mind that it would be thef if it was just a single idea, but no, on the 2 seesons there plenty of them and from the sames series.

G00 did a god job by picking idea from Book that the targeted audience won’t read, but it’s still a insult to creativity.

    Full Metal Panic :
    - All the story of Setsuna and Ali are ripped of from Sosuke and Gauln’s one in FMP, The Gundam hijack Ali does at the end could also be from the end of FMP and even his survival in S2
    - Lockon is obviously based on the same role, same look, same personnality Kurz Weber
    - In S2 you can count Tieria Crossgender that is just copying a same situation (not really crossgending but infinitly similar) from FMP:TSR (ask for the picture and the explication if you want)
    - Then the stupid face he does when he get his ass kicked in S2.
    - The fact the Mecha designer worked on FMP is not surprising.

But 00 it’s also the “WTF mystery’s” from Evangelion :
    - the “Koa” aspect of GN-Drive (abandonned in S2)
    - “Sound Only” meeting with the no-music flashback from episode 16/17
    - The “2nd Impact” looking dispersion of particules
    - strong similarity between Misato and Sumeragi, same “OMG crazy plan” things, same alcool hobby and even same “I played with your feeling” things in S2.
    - In the 2nd Saison it goes even further with the “Synchronisation countdown”, “Over 400% !”, “plot-Induced Setsuna-only Gundam activation”. Tought there is no reason it wouldn’t work with somebodyelse.
    - You can also see the same “3 month ago missed activation/synchronisation”
    - And all the caracter’s developpement of Kaji is based on quoting Shinji.
They even got the Strangling scene of “The End of Evangelion” with him and Louise.

No need to say much about the evident inspiration from “Zone of the Enders” that worsened in S2, it’s begin by Exia move, continue with all the ZoE weaponery in S2 and finish with Jehuty looking Ribbon’s MS and a short background during Masuaro’s first battle that look like the ZoE’s “compressed space”.

They even take back plot from MS:G
    - about every thing that happen during A-Laws 1st Orbital Shoot and the 00Raizer activation (dont forget NGE here too).
    - Anew death in some point, the “damaged MS in the arm of the second” idea probably come from ZoE.
    - Everything Ribbons do at the end of S2. after all … he have the same voice-actor than Amuro, and they’ve a GN-RX-78

Then for those who just loved the “Great Aeolia Plan”, it’s not original either. Every thing about the plan come from the novels “Fondation” by Asimov
    that include :
    - Staring of the old man trough a video made 400 years ago
    - A secret society based exclusively on technology
    - A second group unknow from the first of psychic
    - A plan to regroup humanity that is aiming in reality for a “Hive Mind”, just like S2 “Mutual understanding”.

I bet they also pick idea on TTGL and Macross, didn’t find enough of them to have a proof but deep inside you, you know why Marina suddently began to song.

They care so much about inconsistency Somas just get “put in a bus” with “Mary” until they could pretend to have reason to make her change side, Lockon have been replaced by …himself. “No really I swear ! I do everything like him, say exactly the same thing, I pretend I don’t, but I swear I’m different !”. And Hallelujah who was a traumatic splitted personnality suddently become a “Instant second personnality, just add plot” (like Soma) because just like Lockon he had a fanbase.

    FOR THE MOVIE :

Only waiting to see what will be the next ripp-off they’ll pull.

I bet they’ll finish the copy of FMP (TSR this time) with Marina’s fighting alone a killer and realising “how much she didn’t know about Setsuna way’s of living”.

It could also rip idea from 2010 : Space Odyssey
And of picture a race to Jupiter with (”clever sumeragi plan”) aerobraking, then fighting for a abandonned ship.

It can be from Zone of the Enders since Twin-Drive is the win and their magic teleportation “I do it only because we didn’t realised sooner it would break the coherence” will be the new “Zero-Shift”.

Finish the Fondation (Isaac Asimov) rip-off with a real collective mind singularity (probably what they planned at first for the S2 before removing it because 12years old boy wouldn’t imagine Lockon mind fusing with morron).

Mixed with Evangelion and ZoE staging.
I’m really expecting a Red Mecha fighting in a last battle against 10 IA’s controled Trans-spam
and dying while telling how sad his life was before disappearing in Jupiter atmosphere.

Do not use any < and > for your own sake. It will end the comment there and then. Also, there is an automatic IQ filter which weeds out comments made by those who accidentally got transported from the stone age.
