Look what I got today for a mere ten bucks:

These didn’t exactly come cheap

How did I do so? This is what I received in my mail a few days ago:

“Dear Members,

It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you that we have decided to move our business out of NUS Coop.
The reason is another round of request from our landlord to move to another area in Coop plus increase in rent.
Considering that we are not even making profits in most of the months and our rental is the bulk of our operating cost,
we have decided not to be pushed around again and move out instead.

We have been told to move out by May ‘09.
We are aiming for end May but if we have offloaded most of our books and furniture, we may move out earlier.
We would keep you informed on our actual last day of business through this distribution list.

With this move, we would cease our rental business completely and would refund all members with stored value in our system.
Please approach our staff for refund during your next visit.

We would also start our moving-out sales with immediate effect.
We are selling all our rental books from $1 onwards.
We hope you understand we would not be breaking up the series to sell loose.
This is to consider for members who want to buy the whole series.

The merchandises are also on good discount now and we urge you to come take a look while stocks last.

After we move out, we would continue with our online business.
You can check out our website at www.nuscomics.110mb.com for the services we provide.
To-date, we are still providing free delivery service across Singapore.

If we are able to retain our Chuang Yi account, we would also continue to sell Chuang Yi books at a discount to all of you.

Meanwhile, if you have any queries on our move or your membership, feel free to call us at XXXXXXX or call me directly at XXXXXXX

We would like to again thank all of you for your continued support during our stay.
For all it’s worth, it’s the friendships that we have developed during this period which make this experience most valuable.
We wish you success in your success and all your future endeavours.
Yours Sincerely,

店长 Sam”

The Comics Corner store in National University of Singapore is one of the most awesomest chinese manga stores in Singapore. They rent, sell and have a convenient order-and-forget membership system to manage my manga collection for me. It’s just really sad to see it go. While the high operating costs might have a part in the closure, I doubt it’s a mere coincidence that this is happening shortly after these bullshit. My bargained EVA manga collection was obtained at the loss of the store.

So yeah, do head down and take a look at their dwindling collection, just to give them support for one last time.

Dear Ridge, I shall totally support your magazine from now on by taking 50 copies of each issue every single time I pass by the Ridge distro shelf. You guys are awesome.

What a pity! Some might remember NUS Comics Corner as the tiny, somewhat cluttered comic booth located near IFS during 2008’s STCC that gave out Ichigo ‘We want you’ bookmarks. They provided good, cheap and accessible service for manga within and outside of NUS. In addition, Sam and NUS Comics Corner had been one of the greatest supporters of the NUS Anime Club I have ever known. They were a key sponsor for NUS club publicity materials and Kaleidoscope ‘08. No strings attached. It will be a great loss for all when they are gone. I shall miss them.

I don’t read manga, so I never really patronized the Comics Corner….but yeah, this is just bullshit. I’ll take an additional 50 copies of the Ridge issues each time I pass by, too. -_-

The best part is, the newspaper that reported this isn’t from Singapore at all. SinChew daily is a Malaysian newspaper. Furthermore, SinChew daily is a newspaper that’s renowned for adding ’spice’ into the papers to boost their readership.

What is this “ridge” you speak of?

LOL. Anyway, pity, I went to their store to buy a comic once and there wasn’t anyone there. I opened the book and started reading it while waiting. After halfway through, I decided not to wait anymore and was really tempted to just walk off with it for free. But no, since I am Moral Man, I put down the money along with a note that said “Here is money for one book I took”.

I should be heading down tmr to see if I can plunder some manga for cheap, haven’t been buying much these days no thanks to piracy.

“I am quite shocked to hear that we can find such books on campus,” said Mandy Tan, a second-year arts student. “Although pornographic materials are easily available on the Internet, I don’t think we should promote such an unhealthy culture openly.”

“Would this not indirectly promote sex?” asked Ong Zheng Wei, a second-year engineering student. “Those pictures might be seen as ‘thought-provoking’ and could intoxicate people with lust.”

WTF? What age do they live in? Oh wait, ENGINEERING student, thats why he can’t understand the importance of REPRODUCTION. What a moralfag.

Do not use any < and > for your own sake. It will end the comment there and then. Also, there is an automatic IQ filter which weeds out comments made by those who accidentally got transported from the stone age.
