The Kotobuki Curse of t3h yuri extends its unshakable grip over the Light Music Club to its newest acolyte, the erstwhile innocent Azu-nyan, as she struggles to keep her newly-engendered feelings of yurilust in check in inevitable vain. As the outwardly innocent but in actuality exceptionally scheming scion of the Kotobuki Zaibatsu confirms once and for all that her exclusively-developed strain of the MugiVision virus, sponsored by the 10 billion Yen within the special cellphone granted to her as part of her secret identity as Selecao No. #, is a viable agent for her scheming plans to conquer save Japan, things appear to be on course for business as usual as the girls gear up for their second School Festival concert. Yet, things are not always as smooth as they seem, as a side effect of being infected with the MugiVisionvirus appears to include a heightened sense of possessiveness; which, on hindsight, should have been all too obvious. With that and sundry other troubles about to befall the Club, how will all these throw a spanner in their plans?

K-ON!, Episode 11.

"Although the MugiVisionstrain is still currently in development, it has already proven itself to be variably effective at engendering yurilust in its female hosts. Perhaps not surprisingly, the subject Tainaka Ritsu has proven most receptive to its symptoms, blending almost naturally into her original tomboyish behaviour to begin with, while the strain may also well have taken a firm hold on the inexperienced subject Nakano Azusa, possibly influencing her choices for "experimentation" later on in life. On the other hand, the subject Akiyama Mio has proven fairly resistant to the effects, possibly due to a latent tsundere nature in her personality, while it has had no effect on the subject Hirasawa Yui at all, possibly due to the limited mental capacity of the latter. However, there is a possibility that Hirasawa may still be a carrier of the strain, as symptoms have also started to develop in the subject’s sister, subject Hirasawa Ui."

~ Dr. Kotobuki, Tsumugi

Come to think of it, why didn’t they need to fill in their band name on the application form when they 1) first applied to be an official club, and 2) when they applied for a time slot in the previous year’s School Festival concert?

For those of you guitarists out there, what does maintenance of an electric guitar entail? Besides changing strings regularly and generally keeping it clean, what else needs to be maintained on such a guitar?

I believe that it’s not all that easy for a left-handed person to get by in the world. After all, musical instruments aside, most things produced by humanity in this world are generally designed with a right-handed user in mind; can openers, wrenches and other assorted tools, even assault rifles tend to be right-handed by their very design. It’s a form of minority neglect, perhaps, but nothing that can be helped about. Honestly, I don’t blame Mio for going all sparkly-eyed at seeing a "lefty" fair; it certainly must have been like Heaven for her.

I’d be embarassed to be in the company of one like Yui, too.

Well, that’s a pity; in the manga, Mugi-chan pretty much Geassed the hapless store clerk into offering no charge for the upkeep of the Les Paul, while here, the clerks….showed initiative on account of her status. Not a bad display of customer service in and of itself, to be sure, but this and a couple of other moments omitted in this series had pointed to Mugi not being entirely all that she seemed. And no, I’m not even talking about the CRACK theory I put forth in the first paragraph.

While we’re at it, can someone enlighten me on what this "Iron Cobra" thingy is?

This, is why I still prefer Mio even with the entrance of Azusa; the latter is what she looks like, but on the other hand, Mio still acts her age quite often despite looking vastly more mature; I don’t know about anyone else, but I prefer her "unexpectedly cute" over Azu-nyan’s "as cute as she looks". It’s just me, I guess.

For some reason, Ritsu was being uncharacteristically bitchy this episode. I couldn’t believe that anyone could be as jealous about her friend hanging out with someone else at some other time as she was….but then again, I’m not and never was a 15-year-old girl, so I probably wouldn’t know. Putting aside any CRACK theories I could have come up with, the best possibility I could think of for Ritsu’s not-so-good side is probably…..that she’s PMSing. Somehow, that actually sounds like it fits. Yeah, I know, sexist stereotype. Feel free to shoot me.

When even teatime isn’t enough to solve a problem, there’s still Azu-nyan nekomimi as a last resort.

A great deal of passion might get one started on a big project like forming a band, but to see it through requires practice, practice, practice. And that can get fairly tedious after a while; even the most passionate individual may have to step back and take a breather, after a while. Not that this might exactly apply to Ritsu as she is, but it’s worth a thought.

Considering a replacement might be a piece of solid advice from Sawa-chan, considering the situation at hand. However, I’m somehow wondering about her motive behind giving that kind of advice; it’s no secret that she definitely has experience about being in a band that she simply doesn’t impart all that much to her charges, but from the wry look on her face, it makes me wonder. Did she say that because it is as it is, or was she just steering the girls towards the realization of what it really means to be in a band, as espoused by Mugi herself?

If I heard correctly here, the Japanese term Mio used to describe Ritsu is the same one that a certain Koizumi Itsuki uses to refer to himself as an "ESPer". Combine that with the couple of "yare yare" she throws out later on….what do we have here? A stealth reference to you-know-what?

Mio just looks so….lovely, especially here. Damned, I just love her hair.

And perhaps, Mio isn’t quite as resistant to the symptoms as we might think after all, if that whole hand-holding thing is anything to go by. Not that I’m complaining….

And so in the end, after Ritsu has gotten well, the club are back to full strength and ready to resume practice for the upcoming 5-member School Festival concert….for all of a few minutes. Having caught a cold at the worst possible time despite her previous assertions, how would Yui and the rest of the girls scramble to be in time for their next concert?

Final Episode Preview

And all too soon, next week is the end of K-ON!, the last time for a long while that we’ll get to see bokelicious Yui, moelicious Mio, genkilicious Ritsu, yurilicious Mugi, and nyanlicious Azusa do their stuff. Though we have spent all too little Fuwa Fuwa Time with them, the memories made along the way have been good, and our Love for them shall always be a Stapler. It’s been fun.

“While we’re at it, can someone enlighten me on what this “Iron Cobra” thingy is?”

I’m not a drummer though so I’m not sure if I’m right. It’s called a drum pedal.

The “Iron Cobra thingy” is a pedal that comes with the drumset. The drummer uses it hit the bass drum (biggest drum in the drumset) with his right foot. It’s also used to adjust the sound the high hat (cymbal-like thing beside the snare) makes, with the drummer’s left foot. That’s why it usually comes in pairs, two for every drumset, like in the screencap. “Iron Cobra” refers to the brand. Hope that helps.

Great episode. I feel depressed with the impending departure of this series. It may not be consistent, but twas my much-needed weekly happy drug. Will be missed. Very much. But hey, there’s still the manga.

Ascaloth, you should consider writing fanfiction. Or do you already do so?

Well K-ON is doing some advertising after all. It is the Tama Iron Cobra “double drive” drum pedal, used for playing shorter beats on the bass drum, usually things smaller than quarterbeats. The only thing different from a regular drum pedal is that it has 2 beaters controllable by alternating the feet.

And yes, it is one of the best in the market.

I didn’t read the manga, so all this while I’ve been hearing that stupid line in the OP about the Afternoon Teatime is Prefect (coalguys subbing) without even realising what it meant. Dammit! I RAEG’D. Moreover, lefties ftw.

Also, ITT: The pitfalls of women’s moodswings.

for the record, girls use PMS for everyone’s moodiness, even guys :P So no sexism there whatsoever.

Oh, and…. I bought a bass this week (cuz Mio plays bass, and Mio is cool, so…. lol. actually, no. cuz i wanted to learn anyways, and seeing Mio play so cooly pushed me to get it). When I bought, there were 2 lefties and 1 righty. I bought the last righty. So…. I think the *non-existance of lefties* that Mio seems to suffer from is only because there are loads of lefty bassists in her area :P
And I loled at the Dr Kotobuki… I’d like a strand of Mugi-vision please, to go :P I might be able to infect some friends of mine hahaha

One (or two) more episode huh. I feel an empty void every time I finished slice-of-life series. How long for each one is probably a good indication how good it was for me. Let’s see how K-ON! does that.

Seeing as though i’m the only drummer thus far to post…

Unlike what zacjay just mentioned, that set of iron cobra as depicted in the ep are in fact a double bass drum pedal, manufactured by Tama, one of the many drum brands out there. the right pedal is secured to the bass drum, and said pedal controls the right beater head (there are two there if you don’t even look closely). a drive shaft connects the left pedal to the right pedal and said pedal operates the left beater head. Each pedal is independent in operation of the other, so you can simultaneously operate both. A tension spring allows each beater head to return to it’s pre-foot stomped position, ready for another strike at the bass drum….

    anywho…..nice ep XD

The “Iron Cobra” thing was a double bass pedal. Iron Cobra being the manufacturer’s name.
You can see the rod in between keeps the pedals connected so that whichever foot you use, they both control one of those bass drummer things with the plastic wrap over its head.

    P.S. I lol’d through your whole summary, I don’t know why.
