Gintama

Well, it’s finally been confirmed that Gintama is going to take the plunge and appear on the big screen. The official website to the Gintama movie has just opened (Link here) and the film is expected to release sometime next year. So what kind of movie can Gintama fans expect from this venture?

Benizakura Arc Reloaded

According to sources (Anime news network), the movie will be an extension of the Benizakura arc that ended 121 episodes ago- I mean talk about lack of creativity. For those of you who don’t know, Benizakura Arc is about a rabid serial killer who goes around hacking would be passer-byers to test out a new custom fitted ultra cool demon samurai sword. Of course, in the typical Gintama fashion, the story eventually expands to issues ranging anywhere from responsibility for one’s actions to the purposes one dedicates their lives to (*sniff*-it’s amazing how Gintama can make you laugh and then reflect all in the same arc). Supposedly the arc ended with the defeat of the serial killer at the hands of Gin-san, but somehow the people at Gintama have dreamed up a creative way to extend the whole story and fit it for the big
screen.

Final thoughts

To be completely honest, as I Gintama fan, and emphasis on FAN, I’m a bit reluctant to fully embrace the concept of a Gintama movie. Maybe it’s because most anime movie adaption from anime series are usually a hurried mess that make me want to cringe and poke out my eyes. I can’t even begin to mention how many times of sat through one of these “films” just to end up utterly confused and bewildered. I mean what happen to the plot? And for pete’s sake do the people over there in the anime world even understand character consistency? Seriously, it’s to point that I began believing that the anime world is good for series, but not movies adapted from series. Sure there are some exceptions, but they are far and few between. Nevertheless, I’m pretty sure that regardless of what happens, the people over there at Gintama will create a movie that will at least be funny, amusing and down right entertaining. I mean that’s what has been the case for most of their 181 episodes. Why stop now? I am G-man!

Supposedly it’s just a rehash of the Benizakura arc. Probably will be mostly old footage with new scenes thrown in here or there and maybe a new ending. Pretty standard when it comes to anime movies adapted from series. (looking at you Evangelion: Death & Rebirth) Personally I always felt like the more awesome arcs of the series fit the movie format well since those were the times the show is most narrative. I just would rather have had a movie that was something new. I was hoping for a flashback movie that would show Gintoki, Katsura, and the others fighting the Amanto.

У меня почему-то не получется так писать, хорошая статья!

Do not use any < and > for your own sake. It will end the comment there and then. Also, there is an automatic IQ filter which weeds out comments made by those who accidentally got transported from the stone age.
