Music Review, Lyrics and Translation: Red Fraction (Full Version), Only a Fraction as Good as the OP

Frankly, I’m disappointed. This song was rated quite highly by many including myself and it fits Black Lagoon like a tailor-made glove. But after hearing the full version, its obvious flaws surface.

The completely rubbish Engrish lyrics that try way too hard to sound evil and cool. The show is guilty of similar-styled dialogue but at least they don’t go to this extent. Ok here are the lyrics. I just cannot take the song seriously at all now.

Red Fraction

by MELL (I’ve Sound)

I have a big gun
I took it from my Lord
Sick with Justice
I just wanna feel you

I’m your angel
Only a ring away
You make me violate you
No matter who you are

It’s all up to you
No one lives forever

Been burn in the hell
By all those pigs out there

It’s always been hell
From when I was born

They make me violate them
No matter who they are

Get down on your knees
Get a good head on your shoulders
If it’s for your guys
Go to the end of the earth
Do what you think
Give it with dedication
I’ll put out your misery

Have no prayer
So, I keep the gun with me

For my safety
I’ll do it with no sweat

They mean business
No time for sissy pig

Queen of ocean
Sing "the Volga" to you

No need to think about it
You do it or you die

THose aren’t tears
Don’t let it trick on you
I am hard as steel
Get out of my way

Pay back all at once
Suck away the tender part

You made a mess
For Christ sake, this rotten world
Shit out of luck
Go with my vision
Light up the fire
Right on the power
Weapon… I have it all

Get down on your knees
Get a good head on your shoulders
If it’s for your guys
Go to the end of the earth
Do what you think
Give it with dedication
I’ll put out your misery

You made a mess
For Christ sake, this rotten world
Shit out of luck
Go with my vision
Light up the fire
Right on the power
Weapon… I have it all

And yeah that’s it. The chorus is pretty nice though, you just have to filter out the lyrics and pretend they are singing in Japanese. It sure sounds like it anyway.

There’s a lot of vocal distortion, heavy drums etc. Red Fraction isn’t exactly the type of song I normally listen to, but it’s still passable. The amount of time the song goes without vocals and just keeping up a repetitive beat is also very high and that’s a bit boring. I have to say it again, the chorus and the line that goes "You make me violate you, no matter who you are" are the best parts of the song and when listening to the song, I feel like I’m just waiting for these.

This is the type of song that’s carried by the OP animation. BL’s great OP sequence brings RF to a higher level than what it really is at.

Download here! But please destroy after 24 hours.

  • I really love the song and the lyrics!, but japanese singers almost never let english sound as….. english LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • In the song I really can’t make out these lyrics. It doesn’t fit at all… I love the song though. And even if it doesn’t fit, it still sounds cool ;) Yeah I agree with the KMFDM ultra-heavy-beat. Pretty similiar stuff.

  • To me it sounds like you hold yourself to a higher calibre than the song writers and such. To me unless you’re in the business you have no right to complain. Noone is forcing you to listen so shut your mouths. God I hate people who think they know everything. Bottom Line is Music is meant to be enjoyed through the ears! If you don’t like a song because of the lyrics then you are no different than bible throwing jesus-freaks who say that rock is the devils music. Listen here. Day after day I have to put up with people like you who constantly criticise people’s work because you’ve got nothing better to do with you’re time. I was busy looking up these lyrics for kiko before work and now I am in a bad mood. When you decide to make a name for yourself then I’ll hold your opinion with value but until then don’t cloud the internet with this “rubbish” of a review. If you don’t like it say so but after that shut it. I’m off to work, change your ways and grow up like a normal person. Hell you think you’re good enough write, play, record, publish. Make your own album then let other’s criticise it. After that bitch all you want. Have a nice day.
Oh and btw you bitch about the lyrics but fail to mention the meaning the lyrics prtray as a whole. Get Smart and don’t let me see another of your bad excuses’ for a review again.

  • And by the way. The reason most Japanese people mispronounce “l” sounds is due to translation of kanji, katakana, and hiragana. Most words come out this way. even some words come out as the same but with characters that give an r instead of an l sound. Listen to a japanese conversation the notice you barely if at all hear them pronounce anything that starts ends or has an “l” pronounced in it. This is just some help to people I took a little time to explain this point for ignorant mothers who don’t understand! *sigh* thanks pessimistic monster for reminding me.

  • Most of you seem to be neglecting to look at the bigger picture

Lets take a look at Don Maclean’s American Pie
The lyrics do not make much sense but in whole with the music and lyrics it was and is a great song… probably a bit old for most of you… but the song was so Great in fact that it won plenty of song awards… the song was so Great that Don MacLean had to copyright everything about the song including just the name

when the song was remade several years back by Madonna i think it was… she had to get Don’s permission to do her own version of it and Don gets royalties every time a radio station plays either version… he gets royalties when a cd is sold with either version…. if the people who made the American Pie movies never got Don’s permission there would be no American Pie movies…. Don gets the royalties from all American Pie movies and anything in the American Pie franchise

here are the lyrics to American Pie

    A long, long time ago…
    I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.

    But february made me shiver
    With every paper I’d deliver.
    Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn’t take one more step.

    I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
    The day the music died.

    So bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.
“this’ll be the day that I die.”

Did you write the book of love,
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock ’n roll,
Can music save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?

Well, I know that you’re in love with him
`cause I saw you dancin’ in the gym.
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues.

I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
    The day the music died.

    I started singin’,
    “bye-bye, miss american pie.”
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.
“this’ll be the day that I die.”

Now for ten years we’ve been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin’ stone,
But that’s not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from james dean
And a voice that came from you and me,

Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
    The courtroom was adjourned;
    No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
    The day the music died.

    We were singing,
    “bye-bye, miss american pie.”
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.
“this’ll be the day that I die.”

Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.

Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
    `cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
    The day the music died?

    We started singing,
    “bye-bye, miss american pie.”
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.
“this’ll be the day that I die.”

Oh, and there we were all in one place,
    A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devil’s only friend.

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
    No angel born in hell
    Could break that satan’s spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
    To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
    The day the music died

    He was singing,
    “bye-bye, miss american pie.”
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.
“this’ll be the day that I die.”

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I’d heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldn’t play.

And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
    But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
    The day the music died.

    And they were singing,
    “bye-bye, miss american pie.”
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.
“this’ll be the day that I die.”

    They were singing,
    “bye-bye, miss american pie.”
Drove my chevy to the levee,
    But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die.”

  • Ralph Warren Siegler

actually, I see a slight mismatch between the subtitles and the words of the song I hear, line is not “if it’s for your guys” but “it’s war and you’ll die”. It fits Revy 100%.

  • The lyrics I’d made up for this song didn’t make a whole lot of sense – I thought the official lyrics would be a step up, but not so much. Oh well, I still like the song. :) I hope to watch Black Lagoon someday, too.

  • ありえない歌詞だなw

  • This song sounds rather chinese really, however I do like it.

  • Well…whatever) English not my first language anyway. In addition i’m from Russia so I cared little about lyrics when i listened to it at first time. Speaking of lyrics it’s not that must i say, well i’ve heard faaar worse lyrics so you can say i like this song.

  • the song is cool, the first time I heard it was a long time ago and I think it still rocks. the lyrics? who cares… it’s music, you listen to it and you enjoy it or not. it’s not poetry that you have to figure out for yourself. the lyrics are aggressive which fits the sound, what did you expect? these lyrics fit, it’s not the best I’ve ever seen but it fits and that’s what matters the most.

  • I found it seems to relate to the show more then anything. if u look at in teh way of revy( from Black Lagoon) it fits her mind set. loud cool and crzy making no sense well coming together.

  • It almost seems like it was written just for Black Lagoon

  • TheOneToTeachThemAll

ok….. lets start from the beginning. The difference in the two languages is so very very different that even a correct translation from Japanese to English will still seem a bit mixed up. also if you search up half the opening themes from your favorite animes you WILL most likely find a few bits in english that don’t make alot of sense. and for those of you who don’t like the style of the song….its a very common style in japan. if you’re going to complain about a song for what it is you might as well complain about the anime too or lets whine about the country it comes out of and be a bunch of under-edjucated racist retards while we’re at it.

Plus i think the other funny thing about this particular set of reviews and responses is the subject of whether or not the lyrics to a song matter.

Yes. Yes they do. They always matter. unless you’re some sort of ignorant fuck head that sniffs paint for a living(cuz then i could see how they wouldn’t matter since nothing else really does at that point).

    So here’s my thought.

lets cut the idiocy down to zero and turn this review into:

“The song was okay. The words are hard to understand.”

And done. was that so hard? probably, considering alot of you are so dense you feel you need to treat a song like the guy in school you always wanted to punch in the balls til he spit them out his mouth.

    Grow up retards.

  • I like the song. And lyrics ALWAYS matter to me. They get stuck in my head, so if they suck, so does my day. I can honestly say that I can think of worse songs to get stuck in my head.

  • Hm. I’m completely agree with TheOneToTeachThemAll (omg. Amazing nickname hahaha).

I’m from Spain. My English isn’t perfect, either than my japanese. I’ve only learnt English in school, but I’m learning japanese by my own way. If you try to learn Japanese, you’ll get surprised. They don’t have “l” or words which ending isn’t with alargment (does this word exists? O_o) of the vocals.

There are japanese people that speaks good English. But they’re been studying it since they were kids. If someone that haven’t spoke a different language than their own, CAN’T speak it PERFECT.

So, try to think on it ;)

    Bye~!

  • much appreciatedtab seems just like the band

  • I’m listening to the G.M.S Remix right now. That’s, like, the best upbeat song ever (my first favorite song is One Summer’s Day) This fights so perfectly with Black Lagoon, especially since the first line in the whole song is “I’ve got a big gun.” That anime is basically full of guns, cussing, pirates, and beer.

  • you people are all fucked in the head.

  • I really enjoy the song, I can see why most people say the lyrics make no sense, and maybe it just takes a genius to work out that its a very angry lustful song, really pay more attention to the lyrics, you still might not understand the lyrics but maybe get a better feeling for the song. Fits the show like a glove.

  • No one will see this comment, I bet.

But really, I think the verses are bad. It really doesn’t flow. But the chorus is just, oohoo. When she says (my interpretation),

    You are a mess
For Christ’s sake this wretched world

It doesn’t make any sense. But it’s just, you know. It sounds GREAT. She has a nice voice. That’s what I think. I always get goosebumps when she says that.

  • Helloireadyourcomment

jeez this was posted in like 2008 but i just found it and thought I’d give my input since it never really died :)

Anyway I feel like this was written specifically for Black Lagoon! Sure the lyrics dont make sense at all, but together they all describe black lagoon so perfectly. Like most of the song can describe Revy. But also that one part about “go to the end of the earth” makes me think of Roanapur and how its kinda like the end of the earth in a way. Yeah the lyrics are kinda gross but the song just rocks!!! And I hate this type of music.

  • Jesus, Chris! Why'd you do that?

I keep hearing “I just wanna bang you” when I listen to this song. Anyone else here this when they listen to the OP of Black Lagoon?

  • When I saw Black Lagoon, ’till the 13th episode, the lyric on the opening was:

    “I have a big gun,
I took you from the road
    Sleep with justice,
    I just wanna BANG you.
    I’m your angel,
    Only a ring away
You make me vibrate too, no matter who you are~”

    [ I forgot from here @_@ ]

Then, on the final, she says “Break on, I had it all!” (@_@ )
Well, I’ve learnt the lyric all wrong, but I think that wrong version is better than the original. 8P
