Girl Power: Sawachika Eri (School Rumble)

Loading ...First, I have to say Wordpress (mine at least) has problems. My text formatting goes awry all the time, with extra line breaks, paragraphs, italics and bold tags all over the place, resulting in a messed up post. Even typing out the whole post in html doesn’t solve it. The posting screen appears normal, but once I post it, the result isn’t what it’s supposed to be. Grrr.. I just wasted precious 1 hour of GunxSword time trying to fix this.

And now for the real article.
She’s rich. She’s sexy. And most of all, she’s a Tsundere Goddess. Who else deserves to be the first girl on the Girl Power series but Sawachika Eri of School Rumble!
First, a brief introduction of Eri. The first thing you’ll notice is her blond hair, since she’s a half. Her Mum’s Japanese, Dad’s English. Her trademarks are the twintails and the Tsundere. Part of the SR clique of Year 2 ultimate beauties along with Tenma, Akira and Mikoto, Eri is very popular both in the SR world in and REAL LIFE. Click here for a link to a congregation of like-minded Eri worshippers. Eri racked up 3404 votes in SR Character Popularity Poll 2, only beaten by Harima, the ultimate male comedy character. So why is she so popular? Let’s look at some of her attributes.
She’s sporty, intelligent and elegant.
Able to pick up any sport immediately, with pace and grace.
She’s loyal and helpful towards her friends.
Now, School Rumble is a very popular series. Most of us here would’ve seen and loved the show, as well as a few of the characters. My personal favourites are the crowd favourites, Eri and Yakumo. But what exactly makes Eri superior to the many other tsundere characters out there?
I have only quoted the above situations from the anime. Note that all of them include Harima. Eri’s character only comes alive when she’s with Harima. Before the confession mistake scene, Eri was little more than a vase in the background. But episode 8(I think) changed that, by showing her in a vulnerable position, being disappointed by her dad after she went to all that effort trying to make him dinner. Subsequently, we have Eri fighting Mikoto, then Yakumo, which makes for the most exciting part of the story. Her being jealous really increases her attractiveness.
Water in the sea is always less precious than water in the desert. A nice gesture from a girl like Ichijou would never be rated as highly as the same gesture from someone like Eri. Thus, every little sweet thing Eri does has its effect amplified x 100. That, and the fact that her character design is awesomely beautiful, makes her the most popular girl in SR.
In case you’re wondering, I could not find physical stats for her at all. Anyone who does know, please post them in the comments section. There are tonnes of Eri merchandise available. Be it gashapon, trading figures, calendars, posters, keychains etc. But most notable is the upcoming 1/8 scale PVC figurine from Good Smile Company. Be sure to get it! If only I had my digicam, then I could show you the March page of the Official SR Calendar, which is Eri in her sports uniform, wearing Harima’s jacket. Oooh.

Great article! I couldn’t resist posting a comment this time around - especially after seeing that Eri Fan Club link. I can’t wait until that Eri PVC comes out in June.
Overall, the Twin Tailed Golden Haired Goddess is probably the best written character that I’ve seen in recent years. Her character development has become the highlight of the series. Besides, her facial expressions are simply great!

Eri actually beat out Harima in the third popularity contest, by exactly 10 votes - at 3734 votes.
Physical stats, eh? Height: 165 cm, Blood Type: A, Birthday: Feb 28th, Class Seat Location: Rightmost column of desks, third from the front. Her weight is still unknown, but apparently she’s lighter than Tenma, who weighs in at 43 kg.
Having just finished School Rumble + OVA today, I must say that Eri is indeed one of the best tsundere girl (of the limited number that I have seen) in anime. Her interactions with Harima is definitely one of the important elements that makes School Rumble a great series. However, I think that her relation with her friends is also something that draws my attention to her. I really enjoyed the small arc which features how she quarrelled with Mikoto.Anyway, all I have to do now is to wait for a week or so for the second season to commence. Hopefully time flies for this week of wating.
Tikchan!! Go read the manga!! When you return to HK, you have to get it. Despite it having gone downhill in the basketball arc, SR is still great.

I suggest you head to the link I pointed to in this article. The guys there have written full length articles on why she is great, her relationship with Harima etc. They are actually the reason why I chose to go picture-intensive, since any word-intensive article will have been rendered pointless by the Eri fan club’s massive archives of essays.
I’ve actually been building up an SR database on the WF forums for a while now - in one of the pinned topics in the SR discussion section - so I just happened to have the information on hand. Information on Eri’s height is pretty easy to come by - you can find that on the Official Site (http://www.school-rumble.net/)in the character section. Her birthday and bloodtype can be found in one of those Official File books - and they also match up with the info in the SR entry in the Japanese Wikipedia (which has a far more comprehensive entry on the series than the English language version) and the School Rumble 2ch site (http://tenma.web.infoseek.co.jp/) - the latter also having the stats on the first two character popularity polls (the third one was fairly recent, in the manga.) The seating layout I pieced together by observation by using the anime (it’s consistant from episode to episode). Lastly, the weight information was based on a conversation that happens in the manga - since Tenma’s weight is listed, but Eri’s is not. Eri-chan is my favorite School Rumble character too. Yesterday, january, 23, 2010, I watched the 18th episode in the 2nd series. As Eri kind of had the highlight in the last few episodes, I´m worried that they´ll forget her for the rest of the series.

الجزء الثالت كان رائعا جدا بل هو الاروع لان اري كانت الشخصية الاكتر ظهورا حتى انني شعرت ان الكاتب متعاطف معها000000 لقد استطاع الكاتب ان يحرق اعصابي 0 فكلما شعرت ان اري تقترب من هاريما ابتكر الكاتب مهربا لهاريما حتى انني كرهته ولكنني تذكرت ان الكاتب هو المتحكم فكرهت الكاتب ولم يذهب هذا الشعور حتى نهاية الجرء الثالث عندما منع اري ( للمره الثانية) من الزواج وقبل (للمره الثانية)بالخطوبه الشكلية –وان كان الموقف يحمل مشاعر اري الدفينةبشكل واضح جدا– على كل حال سروري اكتمل عندما قرات الفصل الاخير من الجزء الرابع عندما اظهرو صوره مستقبلية لهما حيث تزوجا و انجبا طفلا وبذلك تاكدت ان النهاية سعيدة((((مع تحيات عاشق ساواتشيكا اري ساماااااااااااااا))
