The title is fake.

I realised I have almost completely stopped talking about anime, besides the occasional fun-bashing of the Pizzahut Show. Thinking hard about the reasons produced these.

Ironically, I watch a hell lot more these days. I don’t keep track of what I’m viewing, but it includes a lot more than what most people view. Are any of you guys following Kekkaishi, Kenichi, Ayakashi Ayashi etc irregularly subbed shows? Between thinking and writing about something analytical, and watching even more episodes, the latter always wins.

My switch to Mandarin subs also means that I’m not in sync with most of the community in terms of viewing speed. Let’s say I talk about Ayakashi 10 (which was awesome btw), most people would not have watched it and I don’t really see the purpose in this. I don’t do summaries and hence would require discussion. You need people to discuss! People who’ve watched that episode! And by the time these people have watched it, any inspiration or impetus to write on that episode has long gone.

It’s a lot more challenging to review a full series than most people think. That’s why despite having completed more than 60-70 series in the past year, I have barely written about any of them. And the better a series is, the harder it is to express the pure goodness through mere words. What I normally do is go up to a fellow anime lover, grab him and shout "XXX show is DAMN GOOD LA!!" a few times.

Contrary to popular belief, the quality of anime has not decrease in recent seasons. More than ever, it’s fucking good! Why? Because there are just so many. It’s like using a machine gun compared to a bolt-action rifle. You get a lot more misses but a hell lot more hits too! With so many good shows to split your passion with, each series ends up getting less love and hence no post. If Irohanihoheto, Code Geass and others were to be shown a year back, I’m sure I’ll be raving about every episode. And Kanon is great too, surprisingly.

The initial novelty of having my own website is also pretty much gone, and Riuva has slipped into a routine. This is quite bad. In the past, I’ll have been using any possible free time to brainstorm for interesting post ideas. During showers, on the bus etc would normally be the times where posts are born. But I stopped bathing. HAHA, ok it’s just that sloppiness has kicked in.

Editorials also really bore me these days. An average day, on Animenano, I read only 2-3 out of the posts on a page. The problem is, most people, including me, are getting pretty tired. The common issues have all been done to death, the uncommon ones are uninteresting and all that’s left is episode summaries or in my case, figure reviews. Even the King of Editorials, JPMeyer, is barely posting these days. Maybe he’s too busy dating Hinano. But wait, doesn’t that Russian cosplayer already have a boyfriend?

I don’t think figure reviews per se are bad, but it is this lack of variety that’s undesirable. I still have about 10 sets of pictures in my "undone" folder waiting for review! And I’m still putting in effort to take better pictures, although the failure to do indoor shots is frustrating. My Stewardess Miu pictures are crap! There’s also a lot of incoming new stuff to review and a bottleneck is formed, further placing more priority on posting figure reviews. The worst part is, I’m getting bad figures recently so that saps morale. FUCK YUJIN MONKEYS!

Anyway, I’ll see what I can do about this issue. Any comments?

On another note, apparently I’m a "gay horny elitist fanboy who hangs around fellow gays like Tsubaki and Darkmirage", and "doesn’t know much about anime, judging from his site." LOL! I never thought I was a fanboy, but if you think about it, I suppose I’m a Murata Range, Rider, GONZO, GitS, rescue show fanboy. As for being gay, I’m quite happy everyday doing the stuff I like. And hot girls rule! Not hot boys! It’s also true that I don’t know much about anime. After all, I don’t watch Naruto or Bleach fillers and don’t know what "Bount!" is. Wait, I do know. Hell, I even read PRINCE OF TENNIS!!!! I’m gay!!

People must understand that the opposite of love is not hate, it’s apathy. So hatemail is better than no mail. And who said this? Tanabe Ai from Planetes.

Looking forward to this Saturday’s cosplay event.

    Hi tj_han,

It’s understandable that you are a bit bored after posting almost daily from months. Take the holidays off, everyone is. XD

Since it’s approaching 2007, there’s always the what was anime was good this year post. I agree that has been a lot of anime. There has been 160-ish NEW anime series this year including sequels. This does not include OVAs or movies like Paprika. That means you can still watch another 60-70 anime series THIS year if you can stomach series like Funny Pets. XD

Enjoy the holidays. Take a break. Come back rejuvenated.

Unlike the real world, or even most other hobbies, there isn’t new stuff happening all the time in the world of anime so writing editiorials is difficult for us anime bloggers. My theory is don’t force yourself to write - if you have nothing to write, just take a break (but having a regular schedule is a good thing)! That’s probably what you need - go on hiatus for a month, and when you come back everything old will be new again.

Or you can write stupid posts that have little real content, or go for clever one-liners. Since you’re good, you’ll get readers anyway (see: Jeff Lawson).

Or start more flame wars. Those are always fun.

Show that you’re not gay by hanging around those cute cosplaying chicks this sat. If there are any

Thinking that you’re posting this topic because of another flame war, I tried to search your old posts.

Hmm… seems to be the only major flame war was the one with “Rainy”.

Anyways, in one of your old posts particularly “Who should Haruhi Date?”, and I found this comment of yours:

“Btw I’m starting a “Become Kyouya in 5 months” project. I’ll post about it next time.”

    So what happened?

Maybe if you’re already tired of figure reviews, you can go back to this project. ;)

Reekon: LOL I remember that project. Guess what, I lost like 8 kg since then. So I suppose its working. And the thing is, I was never fat. As for flame wars, Rainy was the only one. I’m not a drama queer like Darkmirage.

Ted: But only gays hang around chicks! The men just bed them.

Lupus: Nah, I don’t think running away is the solution. More effort and guts is the way to go.

Water: Those scary stats just highlight how crazy the animedom is becoming. ANd I mean that in a good way.

Oh, it’s basically because of school. I’ve been swamped recently with work because of my Ph.D. applications, and my classes this semester aren’t really related to anime so I haven’t had as much material to work from.

Lol, and I thought I was the only one feeling a little burn out. I agree with how it’s harder to rave about a good anime. Much easier if they suck since bashing doesn’t take much intelligence, but writing about how good a particular episode/series is, is extremely difficult.

EH AND FOR FUCK SAKE, ANSWER MY SMS!

    Don’t review all of them.

Are you buying these figures to have stuff to review or are you buying them to have them? Maybe scale back the number of figures you actually review so you have more time to think about the other stuff. You know how much time a figure shoot takes up. If you’re overbusy with that stuff, other stuff you want to focus on gets less time.

Change direction or priorities if you’re feeling stale, but don’t go on hiatus unless you don’t feel like doing this anymore. Going on hiatus really means you don’t want to do this anymore and is a way of quitting without actually quitting.

Your only choice is to revolutionize the world. The path you must take has been prepared for you.

jp: I figured as much. Doesn’t that mean that soon, you’ll be a Prof of Anime?

Tsubaki: The best time to write good stuff is straight after the show, in random and incoherent raw sentences. That’s if one knows a full review isn’t forthcoming. I may just do that from now on.

Super rats: I buy only stuff I like but apparently, I’ve been getting scammed a lot. Since orders are made a few months in advance, this phase is due to my lack of judgement in that period. Some because I still have a silly “MUST COLLECT THE SET” mentality, others because of promo pictures as real as the wig on Tsubaki’s head. I won’t be going on hiatus for sure, as I said. Because after all, that just means running away or dropping it.

kok: I replied a bit on the EOY thing. It was pretty funny actually, that guy is pretty much the usual “EEWWW COSPLAY GIRLS UGLY I AM HANDSOME” kind.

Seth: Is that line from anywhere? Within every incident, there is a deeper truth.

Kenichi is fantastic in a by the numbers way, and should be getting way more love.. especially when there’s still several groups putting out the same filler releases of Bleach or Naruto. For shame!

And in regards to not having the energy to even put the time into your blogger gimmick (ie. figures)… well, that is just truly sad. A manly man would relish the fact that his figures suck, because it’s hard review greatness, but lashing the hell out of crap? It practically writes itself!

It’s the mediocre stuff you gotta watch out for.

I still fall into the must collect the set mentality. Like I feel the need to buy Sei to finish the BakuTen set from Alter, even though it’s a pretty meh figure (Jo and Meg are awesome in that set though).
