Figure News: BUBBA YUKI!
Published by tj_han December 18th, 2006I’ve been meaning to watch some anime today but so far, I keep finding new stuff to post about. It’s like, my 3rd post today.
This time, "Midas" Bubba the sculptor, who literally threw a nuke into the figurine fraternity with his awesome rendition of Bunny Haruhi, comes up with the next in the Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu series - Spacegirl Nagato Yuki. I don’t have his homepage url, and found these pictures elsewhere (Figure FM actually).
Unlike the previous Haruhi, this Yuki seems to be from one of the posters or artworks. I can’t find the picture now though.
Everyone loves Yuki in whatever form, be it in or out of character. This version of Yuki is definitely the latter, since the silent interface doesn’t ever strike poses. But she’s still sexy! I particularly like the little top and bottom, all shiny and tight. The overall high quality is as expected of one of the leading figurine sculptors in Japan.

I hate this…….because I can’t get one. I hate BUBBA for the pain caused by his decision to keep this limited.

I dont understand this, it just doesnt make sense? Supply and demand… many of us are willing to hand over the cold hard cash but they limit this stuff. I tried getting my hands on the Haruhi Bunny even have my coupon from Figure maniacs but sold out before my magazine even landed! making it near impossible for anyone outside of japan to get these, as they are so limited

Makes being a collector a whole lot harder!
Bubba does not do your-run-of-the-mill PVC kits. He casts resin kits. Resin by itself is a very hard material to work with as the molds tend to wear out easily hence the high cost of resin stuff. IE A resin B Club 1/144 Gundam MSs kit costs about 12-15k yen SRP.
Since you are so desperate to get the figure, go e2046 and order the recasts, or better yet, the pre-painted one.

What BB said is true. Bubba makes kits. Kits as in make it yourself. So paint, glue and assemble. If you don’t want to, get someone else to do it for you or pray that Bubba licenses it to some PVC company.
From what I read from modelling forums last time, a mould isn’t easy to make because they have to plan carefully in order for the liquid resin to flow into every corner of the parts they are casting. Furthermore, a mould at most can let one cast for about 10 times before it starts wearing down. Therefore, if BUBBA is going to cast 200 pieces and he has to ensure that every casted resin figure of his to be of a certain quality, he cannot use the same mould for more than 10 times perhaps. In this case, he has to make 20 moulds !
Think carefully, its not easy for these japanese scupltors to spend so much time scuplting one figure and casting them over and over again. If you want BUBBA to produce prepainted ones(I doubt he will), you must be willing to spend afew hundred dollars on them because you are paying for the amount of effort he has put into produce them.
If you don’t want recast and is willing to spend money on getting the original, you can always try your luck on Japan Yahoo! Auctions. I believe there may be still some being auctioned.
I have one of the resin kits for Bunny Haruhi - and to be honest, the thing’s lovely but REALLY difficult to work with. Taking my time putting this together… which, unfortunately, includes the painting. But man, that initial picture looked good. This one looks similarly striking, although Yuki’s… well, it’s weird seeing her as Leelo, or whatever her name is.
But can Yuki dance? XD
