WTF is common street lingo for "Wow, Toxic Fire!!" (pronounced FAAAI-YAA!) and it explicitly describes situations that are either incredibly stupid or mindblowingly awesome. I have picked 5 WTF moments in the spring anime shown so far and trust me, these scenes are truly worth taking note of. LOTS OF SPOILERS though.

Overdrive’s Boobgrope!
The main girl character gets her tits lustily and forcefully groped from behind by her older brother, right in the middle of school and in front of her friend. ONLY IN JAPAN! I’m pretty sure if I grab my sister’s tits like that, she’s going to call the cops in, even in America. But if you thought this scene was unbelievable, the rest of the show’s even worse. And this was supposed to be a reality-based sports series. This scene gets a ten on the WTF scale!

This is actually a screencap from Yakitate Japan of Azuma kneading dough with his legendary SOLAR HANDS.

Bokurano’s Waku Whacked
This was an absolute shocker. I haven’t read the manga but the episode 2 of Bokurano built up Waku to be a character you could almost start to like and he seemed to be a main character. Then he gets spent like some ammunition cartridge. The ominous feeling when one makes an irreversible mistake was never so pronounced in an anime scene than the final 20 seconds of episode 2. The four-eyed boy just broke the teacher’s favourite vase… sort of situation. Only the vase was a living organism who just saved the planet. Whoops. I was going to blog the episode but had to totally delete my mental thought process after that scene, such was its WTF magnitude. 34 on the Toxic Fire scale, in a good way of course.

Never stand on the edge of a 600 metre tall robot no matter how gungho you are.

Nanoha StinkerS
I’m not sure how many of you kids know the military rank structure, but Lieutenant Colonel is a pretty high rank and is normally held by soldiers above 35 at least. Military rank is not about fighting ability, but actually the amount of responsibility held. An LTC holds the lives of a full battalion of men in his hands. An LTC may not be able to defeat a corporal or a sergeant in combat, because that is not the deciding criteria for promotion. But in Nanoha, Hayate is a full-fledged LTC at the age of what, 18? Despite her godly magic powers, isn’t it a bit retarded to hand so much command power over to a teenager? She does not have the experience or the level-headedness to handle extreme situations, does she? Wouldn’t it be more appropriate for her to hold a specialist rank, or even a 2nd Lieutenant? I suppose she does have her own battalion (lol one with like, 5 people). A good example of realistic rank is Full Metal Panic, where Sagara is only a 3rd Sergeant despite his heroics in combat and all-round fighting capabilities. But this is anime and Kira Yamato is a Four Star General at the age of 18 so whatever. 5 on the WTF scale.

Romeo and Juliet Stare at Each Other Making Grunting, Gasping Moans of Romantic Delight
Yup, this happens at the end of episode 1 and twice in episode two. I’m not really a firm believer in love at first sight but surely if it does happen, the two parties involved PROBABLY do not just stare blankly at each other with pink patches on their cheeks, eyes quivering like water in an earthquake, while gasping "ah ah ah" as though all of Terra’s oxygen has just been used to keep the fire in their romance burning. Did Shakespeare think so? 20 on the WTF meter.

For those of you interested in learning Chinese, the three characters at the bottom of the picture read, "ah ah ah". No joke, man.

Engage Planet Kissdum Saved Lots of Seiyuu Fees
At the end of episode 3, Kissdum did a GANTZ buddha on us - all but two of the characters are now officially mincemeat. The subpar animation did not help here and I couldn’t really feel anything for their deaths. Maybe there’ll be some revivals… maybe. For the amount of sudden carnage and the rather sudden plot twist, the final scene of episode 3 makes it into the list with a score of 7 WTFs.

I haven’t been blogging much, and that is solely because there are now so many great shows to watch. Plus I’m still playing Suikoden 5 and have collected ALL the stars and am now at the final dungeon. My favoured characters are Shigure, Sagiri, Cathari, Belcoot on top of the compulsory plot characters. Yes I do not use any magic at all except healing ones because the game is fucking imba, I only need to press AUTO or a formation attack and I win all the bosses on the first or second turn. I love easy RPGs.

    re: LTC Hayate.

Then again, I’m sure you’ve met real life LTCs who are dumber than a stack of bricks. ;) At least Hayate is cute. Am totally with you on the WTF on GEN/ADM/The Second Coming Kira Yamato though. LOL

I knew I shouldn’t have read that Kiss Dum part…. T__T I’ve only watched episode one and was getting into it.

We don’t grope our sisters… IN AMERICA!

I liked the solar hands caption, because nothing is worse than being groped by frosty cold hands.

Hot damn Azuma ftw clearly there. Clearly the Japanese have some kinda issues, unless we’re just left out wherever we are.

Which episode was the Overdrive boob grope in? Were there any other episodes with boob gropes?

Yeah why couldn’t it be like Full Metal Panic, where the captain of one of the most advanced submarines ever known to man is a 16 year old girl…….oh wait

Anyway Hayate has nothing on Chrono,

I bet the Sun Rune’s gonna kick your ass if you don’t start using any offensive Runes, tj.

    RE: LTCs
Just think of them as a bunch of thrice cursed Zoomies aka Air Force pilots. It makes it a bit easier to swallow. Besides they are bunch of glory hounds anyways, they just can’t let the Marines get all the damn credit. Heck if they were smart all of the time you would never have as many blue on blue catastrophes, and why the heck do they get the A-10?

As for Shakespeare he can stew in hell.

You were experting realism in Nanoha? Anyway, its not all that ridiculous. It seems absurd now because high school and college keep extending “childhood” before most anyone in the first world gets a real job or accumulates experience, but things have only been like this for 150 years or so. Teenagers are childish because they are treated like children. They can perform as well as “adults” if they are treated as such. for example Alexander the Great was a general by 18 and was king and starting conquering Persia by 20. I think its a fair example because heroes of fiction should exceed those of reality. In those days people often started traning for their careers around the time Nanoha first got her powers. (9 years old I think) Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate were all the same age so the each have 9 years of experience in the TSAB. Hayate is the strongest mage and is the best commander too based on their respective ranks. She also has Hakuoro level skills at managing her harem. In the US Marines lieutenant colonel an O-5 so we can guess she was promoted about once every 2 years if she started as a 2ndLT.

Why shouldn’t she be an LtCol?

Actually the WTF moment in StrikerS should be the scene where the three lesbians woke up on the same bed in only their undies.

Hayate isn’t the strongest mage, she just knows the most spells due to a handicap cheating using the book. And hey, with dumbasses requiring spell cannons to put out fires, it’s no wonder the lesbians can climb that high up the ranks. Since Koei is doing up the digital effects on StrikerS, they might as well give us a Nanoha Musou.

LianYL: That’s true but if I used that scene, people will cry.

Maverick: No I was not expecting realism obviously but at least REASON. You make a good point I think. But doesn’t Hayate remind you so much of Alexander the Great? With her forceful demeanor, muscular frame and hoplite army… As I said, Kira is probably the worst example so Hayate has nothing on Kira.

Crusader: I’m not getting what you mean lol. I was not frm the American armed forces see.

Sinistral: I don’t believe you. So far all the bosses, even those claiming to be strong against physical attack, have been sexily raped.

Mikemil: LOL, that’s an awesome point. Tessa isn’t exactly the captain, she’s more like the Bonta-kun of the ship, ie the mascot girl. Maybe I should’ve used 08th MS Team as an example.

John: So far in ep 3. That’s the only scene.

    >>doesn’t Hayate remind you so much of Alexander the Great?

It was just the first example I though of because I saw a show about him the other day. Maybe I should of looked up Joan of Arc and how old she was. The idea of Hayate commanding a hoplite army of mahou shojou lolis is wicked awesome though.

In addition I’ve somehow managed to make it this far with out ever watching a gundam series so I can’t comment much on Kira other that I have inferred from context he’s in one gundam series or another. All I can say is that at least he wasn’t a six star general!

Oh and I totally missed the Tessa part

    >>Tessa isn’t exactly the captain, she’s more like the Bonta-kun of the ship, ie the mascot girl.

She’s definitely the captain. Tessa may be a little dojiko but she firms up under pressure, is a expert of submarine tactics, and understands the workings of the Tuatha de Dannan inside and out. Those are just the kind of things real sub commanders need. We also need a remake of The Hunt For Red October with Tessa replacing Bart Mancuso as captain of the Dallas.

    >>>But in Nanoha, Hayate is a full-fledged LTC at the age of what, 18?

If the fate of the world/universe rested in the hands of a 10 year old loli (who’s quite fugly imo) for two seasons in that canon, having an inept LTC is the least of their worries.

    >>>the two parties involved PROBABLY do not just stare blankly at each other with pink patches on their cheeks

A bigger wtf moment happened in the original play. Romeo got his buddies to go to Capulet’s ball because he was madly in love with some chick name Rosaline or something like that. But once he got to the ball, he saw Juliet and fell madly in love with her. It’s also worth noting that Romeo is an S-Class lolicon for bedding 13 year old Juliet.

How could a person effectively run an entire special forces division without at least a rank of LTC? I think in this case, they raised her rank to fit to fit the responsibility she would be undertaking. I mean, she is single handedly administering the division (with Rein, I guess), so certainly she would be highly ineffective were should just a Corporal or some such thing. How do you order around people or command respect from other division heads when they outrank you? Clearly her group is much more important than some stupid mop and bucket brigade. SURELY! HAYATE FOREVER@!!!@!!

“… I win all the bosses on the first or second turn. I love easy RPGs.”

    Meh … u idler

Anyway I think those western story/adventure style rpg is more suitable for you, abit hard to find such games nowadays given that western games have shift their focus

“A good example of realistic rank is Full Metal Panic, where Sagara is only a 3rd Sergeant despite his heroics in combat and all-round fighting capabilities”

Now thats a hyper unrealistic rank, u dun expect a sergent to pilot a mecha, in the real world you hardly ever find an NCO that pilot something, ther are officers

Romeo and Juliet is 500 years old…they married and had sex a lot earlier back then. Hell, my great-grandmother got married at 15 (she’s still alive even).

    RE: LTC Hayate

To be exact, she’s 19. And you were saying that almost nobody below 35 has the rank Lieutenant Colonel? Well, she’s been part of the military for about 10 years, and when do those people in real life join the military? 18? True it’s about twice as long in the military, however she is a SS-class mage. She also has friends in high places, and her own unit under her control, and not just some random unit, but an elite unit.

And a WTF? What about Chrono being an Admiral? Then again, you get the idea he was in the military long long before he met with Nanoha-tachi.

What is the name of the show for the overdrive’s boobgrope?

I know you don’t like Touka Gettan, but the incestuous trap-MILF action in episode 3 has to be up there. The choice of music, the “It’s alright. I’m your mom after all” line, and the scene where one of the characters holds up her hand and has what looks suspiciously like semen drip off… let’s just say that its not the kind of thing you’d expect from a broadcast anime.
