I have wet dreams just imagining the possibilities of Final Fantasy Tactics remade into a PvP battle game… but there’s some even more mouth-watering brewing in the real world now. Aptly named The Cavemen Wars, it involves primitive humanoids from across continents world wide slinging venom across the internet. It’s Japan against the world though…
Thanks to Zepy and Shingo of Canned Dogs and Heisei Democracy respectively for the heads up and hats off to the great Gainax for their sneaky backstab at the slimy otaku. To understand the matter we have to delve into the back story.
As quoted straight from Zepy cos I’m too lazy to actually rephrase,
The current flow of events:
1) Gurren Lagann ep 1 airs and most people love it
2) Mimori Keiko (GL’s Production Manager) sees comments from the small minority that did not like ep 1 and says she does not want to deal with digusting otaku anymore and they should all die
3) Takami Akai (GL’s Producer) replies that “2ch is an anus. It’s full of brainless trash that think they are superior to all.”
4) Episode 4 airs and there is a riot on the net over the bad art
5) Mimori Keiko comments that “That episode is something that only a pro would appreciate. Amateurs that don’t know what they are talking about should not comment about it lol.”
6) People notice old comments made earlier in the month about disgusting otaku.
And I add my own.
7. 2ch spams the official blog with lots of bad comments.

But first, some backstory. 2ch is basically the biggest forum in the world and it’s filled with humanoid trash. 4ch is the American version of it and it’s filled with humanoid trash. They both represent a branch of human evolution known as the Zergism of Man and have shown us the potency of the Hive and Swarm mentality.
We innocent bystanders are getting a real kick out of this as the two biggest forces of evil on the internet turn on each other not unlike how we imagine Zerg would battle against the Bugs from Starship Troopers. Actually, after reading through the comments, it’s more like two clumsy smelly cavemen taking turns hitting each other with large clubs. GO CAVEMEN WARS!
Gainax is no stranger to controversy and this is how we like them. Which company ever keeps a blog with an open comments section? Besides, I love them for giving their stupid otaku hordes the finger. It’s refreshing to see studios actually fighting back for a change. You know how in football matches, the supporters always hurl abuse of the most vulgar kind towards the players, but scream and call the police when the players do the slightest bit in reaction? The otakus are doing just that. Sure, their funds pay the wages but throwing a hissy fit when insulted, after they started it, smacks of sheer pettiness and tiny penis syndrome.
As for 4ch, they sure are idiots aren’t they? But funny idiots they are. And how in the world did they manage to watch episode 4 of GL? PIRACY DUH. And they "support" Gainax. IRONYYYY.
Kudos to both sides for making my day though… I laughed out loud at some of the comments while at work. Point of note - the Japanese comments are a lot more civil and rational than the international ones. So Japan 1 All Stars 0.
But Japanese don’t know English. And they can’t really respond to the English comments without making themselves look stupid. Japan 1 All Stars 1.
Judging by sheer clout, 2ch should stomp on 4ch but there seems to be no concerted effort by the former to storm the front. 4ch is providing a direct link with rallying war cries of "INVADE AREA 11!"… Japan 1 All Stars 2.

So was the animation actually low budget and choppy, or just a different style to the normal episodes? I haven’ seen it yet, but read over at Heisei Democracy that episode 4 was directed by Kobayashi Osamu (BECK, Paradise Kiss) and the guy has a very distinctive style. This wouldn’t be the first time stupid otaku have confused high quality animation simply because it has an intentionally scratchy/alternative style. Masaaki Yuasa’s (Mind Game, Kemonozume) episode of The Hakkenden was apparently “animated by monkeys”.
I thought that the animation looked pretty much the same. After all Guren is pretty ugly. I could see no similarity to Beck at all though. Overall the style was still much in sync with the earlier episodes though not as funny.

The chr art for ep4 is really fugly, it is not as if the first 3 ep have nice chr art, but atleast its stylish in its own way.
Other than the chr art, ep4 is ok

jokes aside, I see no reason for the initial conflict. Ep.1-3 was awesome, the 4th not so much but thats okay as long as it doesn’t become a habit I see no reason for complaining. and the company’s reaction is very unprofessional, otaku’s and channers throwing a tantrum is expected, hell they throw tantrums over very mundane things, but for a high class company to do the same is just idiotic. I really cant be bothered as long as this doesn’t stop future production.
