Elemental Powers are Cool. What Elemental Otaku are You?

Loading ...You know, a show can be really cheesy, full of cliches and poorly animated, but as long as it has elemental powers, people will watch it. It’s seriously one of the mysteries of the universe. That’s why even Captain Planet became such a hit. Too bad CP’s popularity didn’t last because the stupid planeteers refused to fight using the elemental powers conferred upon them by Gaia and instead preferred to combine their powers "Earth! Fire! Wind! Water! And Heart! Go Planet! When you powers combine, I am Captain Planet! Captain Planet! He’s a hero! Gonna take pollution down to zero! etc etc"-style. Which is so gay because I always turned off the TV when CP appeared, due to him being non-elemental. So in short, elemental powers are cool.
Other shows which became legendary thanks to elemental powers include Flame of Recca, Gatekeepers, Pokemon, Hunter x Hunter, Kaze no Stigma, Zero no Tsukaima, Naruto, Suikoden and many more.
There are a few ways of classifying elemental powers. There’s the Chinese Yingyang way, popularised in anime as Japanese Onmyou (which is basically Japanese for Yingyang). This comprises of Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. You can draw a five-pointed star with these elements and it will show which is weak to which and which strengthens which. Eg, Water strengthens Wood and weakens Fire.
Other popular interpretations of elemental powers include the addition of Wind, Ice, Lightning Light and Darkness.
But the main idea of this post is to perform a classification of otaku into elemental categories, because then we will become as cool as the Planeteers.
Fire
The Fire Otaku is one who burns with the heat of a certain subject in him. This subject is commonly either moe or super robot. The Fire Otaku is highly exothermic and people tend to not stand near him because he shouts a lot and thus exhales hot air. He is impulsive and quick to spread his flames of love for his pet topic. Once he starts, you can’t put out the flame and he’ll keep yakking on and on. That’s the trademark of a Fire Otaku. 4chan and 2chan breeds the Fire Otaku like how the jungle breeds mosquitoes.
Water
Water is a super compound thanks to its Hydrogen bonds. It can absorb a large amount of heat, can flow from place to place and can freeze and vapourise. It’s also a universal solvent. The Water Otaku is a suppressor, one who douses the flames of the Fire Otaku and makes the latter seem a little bit more normal in public. The Water Otaku is also a lubricant, solving conflict between other otaku. He is also versatile, covering lots of different genres, with his interest seeping into almost all aspects of anime. The Water Otaku is also normally very cool and calm, yet can rage and boil away when enough energy is added. The Water Otaku is most likely to be less hardcore about anime, and treats it like a regular pastime.
Gold
Gold is dense and a precious metal, which is rather unreactive due to its electronic configuration. As such, a Gold Otaku is one who has loads of money to spend on merchandise, stupidly getting sucked into the strong consumer culture of Japan. Gold otaku are generally rather big and heavy, with lots of branded anime goods on them at all times.
Wood
Wood otaku are very influential people, whose roots and branches grow far and wide. Just like how plants photosynthesize, the Wood Otaku are the creators, whose products are enjoyed by all others. They are at the first level of the food chain and all other otaku depend on them to fill their anime stomachs. The Wood Otaku is generally respected and seen as essential to have around. But they are weak to Fire Otakus who love to flame them for perceived low quality products, and the Wood Otaku gets burnt up. Wood Otakus are hindered by Gold Otakus, as the latters propagate a very materialistic and consumerist culture which undermines the individuality of Wood products. Most mangaka and people in the industry are wood otaku.
Earth
Earth Otakus blend in with their surroundings. They are the mud, the soil and the rocks all around you. You cannot tell if a piece of shit is soil or a piece of shit. Earth Otakus do not show themselves easily but due to the sheer numbers of them in existence, they help the Wood Otaku settle and grow. They are essential to the ecosystem of Otakus, but are looked down upon by most other Otakus. They will generally like Naruto and Bleach and will not be embarrassed to admit it.
Wind
The Wind Otaku is one who is sharp and highly aware. His information is up-to-date and he has no qualms sharing it with everyone. You never really see him around because he’s rather busy with other stuff, but the Wind otaku’s high intellect makes him quite a high level otaku despite not having that much time to commit to it. He gives precise analysis of anime and his words have a great effect on the otakus around him. The Wind Otaku is a breath of fresh air from the other elemental otakus and is one who does not sully the image of the Otaku, unlike the Fire and Earth Otaku. Wind Otakus are hindered by Earth otakus who drown him out and make the former afraid to be proud of the otaku culture. Interestingly, many of the anime bloggers are Wind Otaku types. This is no coincidence.
Lightning
As cool as Lightning Otaku might sound, Lightning itself is actually a rather useless thing in Nature. The only use it has is in the nitrogen cycle, and even that is rather small. But it’s big, flashy and loud. In other words, Lightning Otakus are cosplayers. Everyone sees them, they are loud and flashy, and sometimes, people are scared. But there are some great lightning pictures around still.
Darkness
The Darkness Otaku is a stealthy being who engages in acts which are considered niche even for otaku standards. Examples are lolicon, bondage, futanari and hardcore yaoi. The Darkness is full of the unknown which those outside it will not dare to even look at, much less venture into. Little is known about the Darkness Otaku and we don’t really want to know.

I guess I’m a mix of Water and Wind. For favourite elemental power I’d have to say I like Wind the most. Because Wind Elementals usually have the ability to fly ^^

I think I would be mud on a night of the new moon: equal parts earth and water with a plenty of darkness. I do not look down on Earth or Fire. I admire the Fire for her passion, which I lack, and Earth for providing a foundation for my hobby. I find the Wind to be useful, for he provides information and saves time, but cannot honestly say that I would like to be him. I lack the essential attributes to be Wood or Lightning and Gold is too alien for me to comprehend.
I believe my local environment would be a desert. scorching earth dominates a landscape with few oasis, which occasionally shelter a small tree or bush. The air is still and lightning is rare. Gold is only found in tales of faraway lands. Night comes swiftly for there is much darkness in the land, but the strength of its grasp is difficult to gauge.

My fave elemental would definitely be Water/Ice. Anything from even Pokemon I will always select the Water type XD
I’d consider myself a Water Otaku then. I can watch almost any genre as long as there is a well-crafted plot and good character development, and not mindless battles after battles like Bleach.
I’m also more receptive towards American English dubs and I despise Japanophiles/Wapanese. Sadly Singapore’s full of’em.

The boxation of otaku characteristics defines no one and excludes only people who do not see themselves as otaku. I was pretty much fire/lightning, but unfortunately my current lifestyle confines me to wind/gold….how sad……:(

I’m Water Darkness otaku.
I have my own set of elements. Imagine having complete and total control over fire, water, air, earth, lightning, light, and shadow. I’ve really thought this out I even came up with a symbol that would be on the back of my hand (a five point star with a yin-yang in the center), and a costume (think Blade). Can do literaly ANYTHING! you name it, I can do it.
um im probably fire. Im unpredictable, loud, and get angry easily. But wind is actually a magickal ally to fire, and im extremely smart. So I guess im a wind/fire.

Well, I believe I am a Earth/Wind otaku. I consider myself a wind otaku though because wind is the best element ever. If you need proof on that, watch Kaze no Stigma. I would probaly fit more into the wind otaku category because of my high intellect and another of wind otaku attributes which is mildly controlled emotions, but I’m crazy about Bleach and Naruto’s okay though I don’t watch Naruto much. Generally though, I fit into both Wind and Earth otaku categories pretty good though I like wind more.
Is there a classification for an otaku that comprises the four base elements (earth, wind, fire, water)? Because I can be inflamed with passion for a particular anime and have no problem voicing my opinion and trying to spread the word about them. Then I the next second I can be cool and calm capable of flowing from one genre to the next with ease. I love all anime and try to watch as much as I can from as many different creators and studios. I also try to stay as up to date and knowledgeable about anime as I can. As far as my favorite elements it would have to be Fire/Wind. Each feeds of the other and if combined just right can make for a hell of a lightning storm
