YUA Full Throttle: A Checklist of Things You Need to Do To Enjoy It

Loading ...To truly appreciate last night’s newly unveiled 3rd season of Taiho Shichauzo, you need to have done the following:
- Be at least 18 years of age. An 18 year old or older anime viewer will likely recall the good old days of the 90s, where traffic police wielded more power than ninjas.
- Have seen the original season and more importantly the original OVA, and preferably the 2nd season as well as the movie too. Season 3 is like going back and watching Transformers, except not in full CG glory but new episodes of Generation 1. There is such a huge sense of nostalgia involved, one will froth from the mouth with warm delight.
- Have cried at the epic episode where Natsumi rushed to Narita Airport to catch Tokairin, and the Airport remix of "Love Somebody" was playing in the background.
- Delete all real life knowledge and experience of cars and car chases. Just like how people who have played basketball and football at any level can point out easily how rubbish and nonsensical most sports movies and anime are, viewers who can actually drive probably realise how Miyuki and Natsumi defy the laws of physics.
- Worshipped the two goddesses since the age of 11. I suspect Miyuki and Natsumi were both my first anime girl crushes.
- Forget how real life traffic cops only give out parking tickets and on an exciting day, a speed ticket.
- Instead, believe that traffic cops are SWAT, Naval Diving Unit, Special Ops, SEAL, Ninja, Naruto, Bankai, Mecha, Gatekeepers and Sector 9 all rolled into one compact pretty unit stationed in a friendly neighbourhood police station.
- If you know anything about human physiology, forget that. Women are now stronger than men despite a petite body, can drive better, are smarter and a combination of quadriceps, knees and boots are obviously stronger and more effective than hydraulic brakes at generating friction.
- Bought the 100 fucking dollars retardedly designed PSX game while on a visit to Japan, over 6 years ago, just because it was a YUA game. And that was 1/5 of my spending money then. And then lent it to an ex who never returned it! I have never played it before!!!!! Also bought the mega soundtrack, with two CDs full of YUA music.
If you’ve done all that, then the episode 1 of season 3 will be…. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MOTHER FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!! Except I don’t get the part where Natsumi jumps off her bike, does a somersault and slides into Miyuki’s 100 km/h vehicle…. so instead of having two vehicles, one a military motorcycle, to combat the evil villains, they toss away the more powerful machine for the Mom’s Minivan. Well, I guess they did need a side door to do that human brake move.
If you have yet to do the above things, the show will seem like a middle aged oyaji balding dad trying to act all cool and speak in street slang.

And to add on, the most important effect of this 3rd season is actually the increased likelihood of merchandise being made, particularly figures.

I have no idea when was the last time I’ve watched YUA, (probably 9218391 years ago) but I still remember this scene lol… - Plus -> Natsumi is hot
I watched this on TV in HK many years ago, and YUA remains a top classic fave of mine. I’m very looking forward to this season’s and I’m not expecting any major character progression, just more of YUA

No mention about the special episode of YUA in LA? Or even the 20 short episodes (each of 6.5 mins long)?
Funny thing was, I watched the movie BEFORE the OVA or series, so naturally, I got lost when introduced to a seemingly large cast back then (that was Dec 3 2001, when I first got AXN on my cable)
for some reasons, I always missed part of this series somehow. I remember watching season one on some local free TV station (should be Channel 8 at some weekday 2pm) back in secondary 2, with funny PRC accent dub. (yes I was poor and didn’t have the luxury of cable and AXN). Then the station either cut it or I went back to my hometown for holiday…
Then came season 2. I was back in HK for holiday and was lucky to meet the schedule airing of season 2. But holiday being holiday, it has to end, and thanks to it, I couldn’t once again complete season 2 before leaving HK…
Hopefully this time round I can complete season 3, looking forward to watching it later tonight
and hopefully my lack of knowledge on the first 2 seasons won’t hinder my enjoyment to YUA 3
ok lets see YUA has such a big impact on my life that i guess i will never buy a car. yup this show is nice natsumi foot braking is godly.
need to get used to the sparkling eyes though its much more than what they used to have. cant wait to see today. if the op says anything we might even see miyuki start drifting it lol. i hope we get to see more NOS action and this time when they zoom into the engine i hope its 2.5D.

I am waiting warmly for it’s release. Though I didn;t do all of tha, I thought the show was awesome.

I prefer Miyuki myself. YUA is a good, quiet series, a bit wacky and over the top but never losing its friendly edge. It’s really quite evergreen, but because of it, also never quite “hot”.
When I was young, I liked Natsumi more. But nowadays, Miyuki is more my type. Natsumi is a bit too manly haha.
I think Lynx puts it across well. YUA epitomises an action-healing type anime.

I went crazy over the OPs and the EDs… and yes Miyuki is my dream girl. woohoo. I am not going to condemn the series no matter what.
I’ve done all that except that I’m older than you were when they aired it on channel 8 nights and internet was still less than 56k dial-up… I think it was in the mid 1990’s. I didn’t buy the merchandise though because I’d be broke if I buy every stuff I like on the net.
I never watched the original YUA but I still thought this episode was, barring the rampant breaking of the laws of physics, pretty enjoyable.
First watched YUA on TVB in HK, then saw second season, then saw movie. Had always been an avid fan, and hope they keep up the feel of YUA.
Somehow the moment I saw natsumi doing the somersault into the minivan, I knew the foot-brake was gonna come. Too bad Nakajima is still wimpy. Let’s hope he gets better this season.
Hmm… the drawing for the 3rd season seems to be of a poorer quality as compared to the previous seasons. The opening and closing credits have great animations, but the show itself isn’t that fantastic. The characters’ faces aren’t consistent as they turn. Guess it might be cos of the new director they got…
Well, I’ll still watch it since I’m a fan of the series, but I hope it improves… and I hope they finish up what they did at the end of season 2 at the ski resort…
Oh yes agree, but I don’t have high hopes since this is YUA. Nothing really drastic happens (hope that director proves me wrong). I miss Today (the mini-police car they drive) and Miyuki has always been my type. I hope Nakajima gets some beefing up and does some cool stuff for once. Art consistency is crucial and I hope they don’t deform characters. And will Sena (Nakajima’s step mom) show up? Miss her Caterham (the car she drives)
