Gundam 00 Episode 6 Thoughts

Loading ...By a sad coincidence, I just saw all 3 seasons of Full Metal Panic a couple of days before seeing this episode. It’s like stuffing yourself with premium sashimi and then being force-fed rotten eggs.
Let’s just sum up the episode.
Hallelujah gets locked up in a comfortable-looking, spacious padded cell which seems a luxury to have onboard a spacecraft. It is his punishment.
Moravia or whatever country, which has just one powerful corporation PMC Trust, which is rather similar to Amalgam from FMP, does some funky shit together with AEU to piss off the Celestial Beings.
So the Gundam Meisters must do battle with 130 Mobile Suits from the elite mercenary industry!
And they have to prepare for it.
There were also a lot of breasts, particularly Sumeragi’s. Wong Liumei does not want to lose out and wears an outfit that outlines her titties.
Girls Usually Need Diamonds and Men
It was rather boring. The Gundams get a big upgrade to their equipment. Kyrios gets a fancy new missile launcher, Dynames some ridiculously invincible armour, Virtue two big-ass turrets and Exia a bunch of new swords. New mecha are also introduced on the AEU side. AEU’s mecha look far better than the Gundams save for Exia.
The biggest problem with Gundam 00 so far is the battle choreography. Even Seed and Seed Destiny, before the horror recap and footage recycling, had better battle sequences than Gundam 00. G00 suffers from the "oh-let-us-slaughter-the-grunts-who-move-illogically" syndrome, which is designed to make the audience feel good about the Gundams and hence purchase merchandise. The similarities are glaringly obvious with Full Metal Panic, a great series also flawed by a similar problem. In its case, the lambda driver ruins the show, while in G00 it is the overpoweredness of the Gundams. Setsuna coming to battle with his old friend in his guerilla days also seems a complete rip-off of FMP’s Kashim and gatling-gun friend arc.
The poor mecha battle choreography is my biggest gripe. To fully understand why it is bad, you must see comparisons. Considering G00 is part of the pseudo-realistic mecha genre which should be including believable mlitary tactics, I shall include only other shows in this genre. Off the top of my head, MS Igoo, 08th MS Team, certain FMP battles (not all), Ghost in the Shell’s Tachikoma fights etc.
Let’s see now, in episode 6 of G00, the battles can be described as:
Kyrios shoots a lot of lasers and misses while flying head-first into an enemy squadron who do not attack him for some reason. Then he unleashes a huge wave of missiles and destroys them. They engage each other only at about 300 metres when even in the 20th century, fighter jets battle over kilometre distances.
Wow, Kyrios shoots 50 highly-sophisticated homing missiles even though there are about 10 targets and it is only phase 1 of the mission. Way to conserve ammo.
Virtue uses his huge-ass peniscannon and blasts his enemies to death. Aerial targets are wiped out by testicle cannons.

Dynames stands in front of a static squad of enemy MS and does nothing. He laughs while their shots bounce off his super armour. Then he opens his arms such that his armour is totally exposed but nobody can touch him still. Wow, armour protects even parts which it doesn’t cover! Excellent!
Batman returns. Yes let us forget that doing this posture prevents the two wings from covering frontal attacks. Looking cool is more important.
Exia chops a bunch of people with many swords, alternating between the various ones to look cool. He even throws out two beam sabers like Naruto’s shuriken even though he has a rifle.
Woo, I am Ninja Gundam! Naruto Style!
Even Code Geass had far superior battles. Of course, we all believe that G00 will show us great action and cool mecha in future episodes, just like how Christians believe Jesus revives on Christmas Day.

Your mention of FMP makes me desperately await a new season of it. It’s been quite some time since TSR. Kyoani should start working on it, especially since there’s a lot of story to cover after TSR in the novels.

Anyway, Gundam 00 is one of those shows that you watch with your brain set to “safe” mode. And at the very least, Sousuke had problems utilizing the Lambda Driver to its full potential until the very last episode in TSR.
Come to think of it, G00’s Celestial Beings = Mithril, Lockon = Weber, Setsuna = Sousuke. Similar premise as well.

Lol, if they’re ripping off FMP, they might as well make that new AEU pilot as uber as Gauron…but neh….he looks to unmanly to be a Gauron ripoff, in fact he looks like Ouran’s Haruhi Dad with a beard…
One thing I don’t underdstand, is why the countries are just predicting ‘oh CB will turn up here’ and making no effort to find out WHO the people behind CB are. I mean, what happened to intelligence? Surely the governments and factions etc want to know who they are? Do Saji and Billy realize they have crossed paths with two of the core people of CB? If some guys with superweapons came into the peaceful picture and started disrupting the status quo, I thought the standard procedure will be to get the CIA or M16 to do their stuff, look for suspicious people that may fit the bill, tap phone calls etc.
Another thing is in ep 5 Allelujah actually let his voice be heard to Scarface. Did they record the voice or anything? Who knows, if they had voice ID technology they might even be able to track him down. Or something. All they’re trying to do is military force-related, which isn’t very effective, coz the Gundams just own.
This show is really boring the shit out of me. Every battle thus far has been a walk in the park for Celestial Being. If the writers don’t start handing CB’s asses back to them soon, I may have to give up on this show the way I did on GSD. I’m just glad I didn’t waste any money in order to see these episodes.

Wow… penis cannon. x.x Yeah that one got me. The throwing of the beam sabers looked cool, but even if he did so he could kill two enemies at a time he would have to go retrieve the Saber’s later anyway. So he could have just dashed up and slashed the two in front like he did the two in back. Jeeze 7 swords for a Gundam with two hands is really overkill.
Double: I’m looking forward to Haruhi II rather than more FMP. Also for some of us “Moe shit” is what we look forward too lol.
