Editorials are like burning fossil fuels while Episode summaries are a renewable source of energy, say wind turbines.

I shan’t go into the merits of each, but rather which is more sustainable. Just like fossil fuels, editorials are non-renewable and its content will someday be exhausted. Unless you chance upon a new well by coincidence, or fervently scour the depths of the ocean, someday, the blog will just be expended. Old editorials are just like combusted fuel, gone as CO2 and water.

Episode summaries are on the other hand, an unlimited source as long as you have the necessary infrastructure in place. You can churn it out non-stop, get your goons to do it (THAT) and you blog will go on forever, also powered by the masses of hits brought upon by Google, when viewers catch up on older series.

The biggest difference however lies in the way the content are written. To write good editorials, you need to be truly immersed in the world of otakudom, anime and the blogosphere. You need to have information at your fingertips and keep yourself abreast of all the latest trends, memes and developments, as well as other prominent bloggers. In other words, you need to live as a blogger. If you notice, many editorial blogs whose authors gained a significant something in their real lives to divert attention away from being a blogger, just completely drop off. One example is JP Meyer.

Writing good episode summaries however only require you watch the episode, have a good grasp of language, comprehensive abilities and the time and willingness to do a blog post. You can totally be unotaku and still run a proper ES blog. Case in mind is Impz from [That]. He isn’t an otaku at all (that’s a good thing you know) yet runs a very successful anime blog specialising in ES.

Anyway, this post basically explains why my activity has been shit lately on this site. But don’t worry, I’ll still send out the Xmas gifts! Though it’s almost February…. lol.

I fully agree with Hinano. I wish I had the power to force my boyfriend to update his blog, but then again, that would mean less time for me *hrr*

I think it’s the ‘girlfriend factor’ that explains the lack of entries.

I have to agree with the analogy; most bloggers would run out of editorials after some time. I never did quite enter the field of episodic summaries and reviews very much, so I can’t say anything for the second. Though, I think the most important thing for an editorial blogger is to be a fan.

That said, I wonder when I’ll burn out…

But will old editorials still apply to new anime? Doesn’t that mean there is a need for new editorials?

Then again, why does all of this matter? Editorial-focused blogs will do what they need to survive, unless their writers wish to lay it to rest.

Hinano: The text is written by me. So I could change it, but I find that this line attracts HUGE amounts of visitors.

Sasa: Hey I see her home everytime we meet up, which results in my returning home past 12 midnight most times. More importantly than blogging, I haven’t even watched many of the shows! Also, I need to study as well.

Icystorm: Yes since old editorials do not really apply to new times, there does exist the need for new editorials. BUT the required new editorials need to be written by people who KNOW the new things and that is exactly my point.

Do not use any < and > for your own sake. It will end the comment there and then. Also, there is an automatic IQ filter which weeds out comments made by those who accidentally got transported from the stone age.
